I have extensive communications with James “Jimmy” Lovejoy and made a deal to buy 5 knives from him. Part of the deal was within PayPal and part of the deal was through Venmo. We had some mutual contacts, he seemed a bit disheveled but largely ok. I was very focused on getting the package out and getting a tracking number. He was in communication with me and provided me with the tracking number.
Package showed delivered or out for delivery and by sheer luck of circumstance I am away and, against my better judgement, he had begged me to release part of the funds.

Package later than day, only has 2 of the 5.

I immediately reached out to Jimmy who said he thought THEY were supposed to arrive at the same time. “They're in 2 boxes both shod have been delivered together though.” This was the first time there was any mention of a mystery second package. I asked him for tracking number for the newly discovered of second package. I asked him why he didn’t tell me there was a second package and why when I asked for tracking info he didn’t provide it to me. His answer “I thought incase the hold wasn't lifted or there was some bs with getting it I'd have something to fall back on” which makes absolutely no sense because he would have already sent the package and delivery to me would have been out of his control.

Claimed to be driving home to get receipt with tracking info, went from an hour to 2 to 3 to 4, kept stalling and long story short, then radio silent. He has been asked to provide the tracking number of the undisclosed second package no less than 50 times, along with given the chance to come clean. No response.

The facts above are all in writing and irrefutable.

I have now learned that he’s been banned from most sites for issues in the past.

If you’ve been screwed by him as well please contact me. I used poor judgement at some points but I don’t do business without vetting, guess I didn’t vett enough but I have all his and his co-conspirators information which is all good and actionable.

From what you wrote, the seller’s story indeed sounds a bit wonky.
When did all of this happen?
How long ago did the first package arrive?
Assuming I read correctly, do you have any recourse through PayPal for a portion of the funds? (fingers crossed)

ETA I’d also like to know where the transaction took place. Bladeforums, Insta, Reddit, etc?

When did all of this happen? OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST WEEK

How long ago did the first package arrive? YESTERDAY HES HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO INFORM ME “THERE ARE 2 PACKAGES” AND PROVIDE ME WITH TRACKING SINCE JULY 26 THROUGH THIS MOMENT.

Assuming I read correctly, do you have any recourse through PayPal for a portion of the funds? (fingers crossed) PROB NOT BECAUSE I RELEASED WHEN PACKAGE (WITH 2 OF 5) ARRIVED. TOOK A CALCULATED RISK, CALCULATED WRONG.

Apparently something happened in the past with less definitive facts but CRK groups on FB booted him. The point of this all is to make sure he doesn’t screw anyone else. That’s all. Frankly I’d be happier if the whole story wasn’t out there because the point isn’t to prove case here, just don’t want him to get anyone else. The ship sailed on my situation and I’ll do what I can but what will be will be.

34 posts is not really “very active” IMHO. All in the for sale section but one.
Sorry this happened to you.
I’m wondering if he had another user name, he posted on my profile page but I deleted. Are you able to see which username he used. He had a long long history and I found a couple of the knives he bought through BF posts.

Sorry being duplicative but initiated through BF and he is very active on BF.
I'm sorry to hear about this situation but with respect he has been an unpaid member here for 18 months and has 29 posts, all in the sales area. How can you say he is very active on BF? He has never made a single post outside of the sales area.
Why on earth would you trust him?

Guys this isn’t about me. Yes I took a stupid risk but I knew I was taking it and that i could lose. He must have another account. It had a very long history and he was constantly reaching out to people through their profiles.

Ok. I’ll look out for it. I’m not asking you guys to do anything, I don’t know the procedures or what you do to inform others but I wanted to make sure I did my part if my poor judgment call or his number of posts don’t justify telling other to look out for him, fine with me. Again in an online forum that functions on a foundation of trust, i did my part. Your call, no judgment here.

The lack of a second tracking number is definitely a bad thing. ☹️ I’d be bringing it here if I were in your shoes too!

And of course we all appreciate knowing when a deal goes south. It’s a huge service to the community and occasionally a thread like this leads to favorable resolution (which I hope happens!) My questions are mostly just so I can fully understand what’s going on.

This is a bit of a tangent, but I guess I still don’t understand the concept of “releasing“ PayPal funds. Is it a new service that they’ll hold funds in escrow between two parties until a deal closes? (My PayPal-fu isn’t as strong as it once was.)

The seller has been tagged to the thread. Hopefully he’ll respond.

I’m not saying not to post your experience. Just trying to get a grasp on how he was vetted.
Getting screwed sucks. I was screwed not too long ago by a guy who came here from IG just to sell a knife. I did receive the knife…and being who I am…fixed it. Thank goodness.

It sucks being in this situation. Hopefully he actually comes here and responds.

Honestly has nothing to do with putting pressure on him to make right, I’ll deal with that aspect. This is 100% so someone else doesn’t get screwed.
As far as PayPal, they initiate a hold sometimes which prevents the seller from receiving the funds. I don’t know what triggers it. When that happens they give the seller an option to enter the tracking information into PayPal so it knows when a package is received. After either 48 hours from payment or on package receipt they buyer can confirm receipt so that the seller can get his money. The package was at my house per usps, he’s ultra lucky that I’m away with my wife, and at the time, on his request, which seemed reasonable, I weighed the odds of nearly 100 success buys in less than 2 months and made a judgement call and confirmed package received. I was wrong.

While I understand the frustration, I probably would have waited a couple more days to see if the 2nd package showed up, before starting this. But the lack of communication is certainly disconcerting.
