Scammed on BF sale section: But Not By the Seller As It Turns Out

You're new around these parts. Things were simpler back in the day...during many of the 25+ years I've been associated with this site. Trouble was very rare. Not unheard of, but quite rare.

Nowadays, nothing is without issues.
Ok. But I’m not new to the internet.
The fact that there was very little trouble on this site doesn’t change that this is a public facing site and all posted info is easily accessible and not easily removed.
Nor does it answer why NOW when we know that scammers (and worse)are everywhere why the old practices persist.

Well, when you figure that out, let us know.

I've seen several members who have been burned jump right back into the frying pan. Apparently they can convince themselves lightning won't strike twice...and hey, can't pass up that deal.

Scammers have always been prevalent you just have to go to Feedback sub-forum to see how many people per year get scammed without doing their due diligence.

Has it gone up? Maybe but that's because it's easy to get email addresses from scripts. Scammers will hit any market that can make money.

But but my $7.36 and my tax rate…..

What the hell is going on? I can't seem to understand the original post of this thread. rperillo05 rperillo05 can you chime in? Does any of the emails that the OP listed belong to you? Did you receive $185 from someone else not the OP or did you not receive any money from anyone?

Or was rperillo05 rperillo05 bladeforums account hijacked by a scammer?

OP - what is your basis of claiming the seller to be a scammer? Are you sure you sent $185 to the seller not someone else?
I don’t know how much of this thread has to do with me but, no my account was not hijacked. Ken could not PM he left his email in the thread and someone jacked it. I also emailed him confirming he was in the Continental US bc his profile says Japan. He then replied to my email saying he sent the funds and provided his ship to address. To which I replied that I never sent him my payment information and thought I was getting scammed as people often claim they send funds and try to get you to refund them. So I just blocked him bc I’m not dealing with that nonsense. As to which I will now only deal with paid members.

^^^^
Well, thanks to the generosity of EngrSorenson EngrSorenson , the paid membership hurdle has been overcome. So, should he wish to make a transaction in future, at least he can better his odds by starting off with a PM to make contact with the seller.

That’s an understandable response. I will only deal with paid members who give me their payment info in a PM.

Perhaps the first post in this thread should be edited, to remove rperillo05's email address.

Email removed

I'm not happy that the OP post still makes it out that rperillo05 is the scammer, and he is not - OP put his email out in the wild in the sale thread, and a scammer contacted him pretending to be the seller reperillo05 here; but that scammer took the money, not the forum member.

His email was removed, but not his user name.

Lighten up Larry. It's a little late to be outraged. Do you have any clue how many threads and events we have been dealing with? How many hours in the day?

That was directed at the OP who should remove the wrong user name from his post - not criticizing the mods.

Thanks for clarifying.

The title has been edited, and the email removed. The seller's forum name shouldn't matter since anyone with any reading comprehension should understand the seller wasn't at fault here. (I realize that I shouldn't assume that. LOL.)

Maybe a public service anouncement on this scam, as you enter the site, outlining the scam and all the ways to avoid it. Often only needing to do one, to save the member. I believe one such notice was posted not long ago on friends and family. If the administration could do such, all would have the chance to be aware, and from there on it would be on them if they choose not to listen. Not all read GBU.
But this scam can be easily avoided.
Just an idea

I just can’t believe this keeps happening. Almost daily it seems. Doesn’t anyone read the announcement banners??? 🤦‍♂️

Facebook knife world is really bad too. The scam there is “The box was empty when I received it “

I always show the contents of the box to someone at the shipper who knows me (my UPS Store or a Postal Annex), before sealing it up and shipping it. And it doesn't leave their sight until the truck takes it away.
