Just got an offer to buy a Strider GB that I was selling on a couple of knife forums (BF, KF, USN, JD). I got an offer to buy from an Arthur Elston, who has the email address of artelston1968@gmail.com.

Some of the emails were a little odd as he refused to provide any references or what his username was, and after doing some research, it looks like his email address and name are connected with several online scams in which he sends the seller a fraudulent check for the goods.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anybody here in case this guy is targeting knife specific forums, I would hate for anyone to get ripped off.

Just a heads up,

Chris

Well here is my experience with Mr. Arthur!! I am selling law books! I am asking $200 - - - - He wants to pay more!!!! His email is below. Sounded alarming to me, so I researched his name and email. Yours was the first thread I seen, curious what else I will find, when I continue to look. Like I'm going to tell him WHERE I live!!!!! :thumbdn:

Thanks for the quick response. I will like you to know that i am pretty alright with the price at 210 dollars and will be ready to progress with payment. Since I won't be making any repairs on it, I will add $20 to the purchase price for assured purchase. Please provide your full name, Address and your Phone number so that I can send your payment. I will be paying you by check/Money Order. It will take 2 -3 days for the payment to get to you. I have a liable shipper and will make arrangements for the pick-up after you have received payment,If this meets your approval, kindly get back to me as soon as possible, with your name, phone # and mailing address where payment will be sent, so that I can have my assistant get the check ready.
Note:
As soon as you have your money in hand, we can talk about the picking up of the item.
Please remove this ad out of the site.
Best Regards

He's got a name that sounds like a Yale graduate from Connecticut, but speaks in scammer Nigerian dialect.

What's up with that? ;) :thumbdn:

Yes, I found someone in Australia that had nothing to do with law and an attorney in California. I replied to him, with a copy of the thread and asked him to explain. And adivsed him that I will only accept paypal form him. Curious to the email I'll receive back. Good luck and beware everyone!

Yeah, the first thing I thought when I read it was, sounds like I just got picked to help move millions from the account of some deceased Nigerian president again!!!!!

Makes you want to stomp his head in. :)

i wouldn't accept a paypal payment from him. he can open a dispute and you get screwed.

if you chose to do business with him, only accept a usps money order (or similar) or cash.

It's always a good idea NOT to do business with someone whose dealings seem shady in any way. Why take the chance? Even if your deal goes all right, you're supporting him and possibly giving him cover for his next fraudulent deal.
