Scammer Alert! krazyK

That sucks... can I propose a trusted buddy shipping method? Maybe some of the people with higher ratings could serve as shipping middle point. When two people want to trade, they can agree on one shipping buddy (with the three parties approval), and both ship to that person, who will then ship both packages again to the two parties. If one of the packages does not get to him, he can return the other one after some time. Both parties would have to pay some fee to the shipping buddy for his shipping costs, and his time to do this.

This may not make sense when trading $20 knifes, but when you are talking about $400, the 'cost' of adding a trusted party may be worth.

M.

I doubt this would work. You would adding yet another person to the mix, and thereby complicating things further. How would this 3rd person be compensated for their time? How do you deem a person trustworthy to be a "shipping buddy" to begin with? What if they decide to just keep both knives? This sounds great in theory, but in practice it is a disaster waiting to happen.

The only thing that needs to happen is having some time set aside to research whom you are trading items with, or simply cough up the money to outright buy the item you want or are interested in. If people didn't use the Paypal Gift option to buy knives for example, this entire section would be half as deep as it is now. Unfortunately, people fall for BS stories and let themselves get taken by that "warm and squishy" feeling, and they simply throw all caution to the wind. Also, asking for "Net to me" is just BS, do your own math for crying out loud, is it that hard? I have less sympathy for people that cannot add their fees into their asking price and force those fees on others.

Why not instead search for a person's history? Search for the forum name and see what pops up?What kind of conversations are these people participating in? What is their general tone and demeanor? If your gut tells you things look shady, then that is a pretty good indication that they are shady. There is just not viable option for not doing these things.

If two cannot be trusted 100% of the time, than does three persons increase or decrease the risk involved?

^ This.

Just use common sense. May not be 100% avoidable but it'll go a long way...

RevDevil, I see your point, and that makes sense. Specially when buying. Using paypal goods should protect both parties. But the OP was talking about a trade, right? There is no paypal involved in that case.

The third party increases complexity, but not if it is a trusted one (pay member on the forums, with more than X positive feedback). And as I indicated, he would need to be compensated for his time. I noted that it may not make sense for $20 trades, but when you get to expensive trades, it may.

A third party increases complexity and costs, but creates a trusted system. If you think about it, it's the same that we are doing with SSL certificates in the Web. We are trusting some organization that says that this page is who they say it is.

But it may not work :) I was just proposing it, I don't know if anyone has tried it before. But your method has been tried and it works fine :)

I mention the PP Gift option because the sales thread where the stolen knife originated included that condition by the OP. Just want to cover all bases while we are all assembled. ;) I sure hope that the OP makes it a point to pursue the case with the Postal Inspectors. This is the worst time of year for this kind of thing to happen. I absolutely hate scammers/thieves with a passion like no other.

I have a list of people that I would gladly deal with and that includes complete trust. I've read their posts over the years, and had time to assess their character, they are people I proudly consider to be friends and not simple acquaintances. What's funny is that the last 4 purchases I made here were by these very people. In 2 of these cases, the sellers shipped the items before I was able to get funds out to them. I suppose being a SuperMod here may have had something to do with it, but I would rather think it was based on my integrity and their familiarity with me over the years.

Rev,

I had complete trust in you before you were a super mod. I'm not alone in that sentiment and I think it may be why you were trusted enough to become one. That does say something about your character. . .

+1
Net to me (PayPay Gift or add fees that I am responsible for)= NFW I will ever do a deal with you!

Best of luck to the OP, getting justice from the thieving POS, KrazyK.

KrazyK- I hope that your trailer burns down on Christmas Eve!

Not one but TWO "Kevins' both involved in bad deals? And close to a third, verified different scammer who lives a couple miles away? Uh huh. Scammer #1, this Jordan, told his pal "Kevin" what he did, and now both "Kevins" (which both are likely the same d-bag ) is doing it too. If a few members live near this place in TN, may not be a bad idea to take a little look see at these places. Maybe do a little recon. I mean, if "Kevin" were to be found with the sh*t beat out of him and a roll of pennies shoved up his ass, I'd consider that justice, and it IS "ski-mask weather" ;)

(FOR COMEDIC PURPOSES ONLY!!! LMAO)

Hell she might have suggested the pennies , apples don't fall far from the tree.

And to the OP, that sucks he took your knife , I don't have an Emerson to send you but I could send one of the knives I have so it isn't a total loss.. won't be a super expensive knife but hopefully enough to cheer you up. Send me a pm with your Addy.
I doubt it...but ill bet she's gonna be real mad when she finds out he stole her penny collection......

Don't waste time getting a complaint in with Postal Inspectors. If he's still on probation his officer could revoke him. :)

I appreciate that G, and I share the sentiment as well.

The sad and scariest part is that he likely has 1-2 other accounts here on BF just buying time and making general posts, baiting the hook for another go.

Wow, what a POS.....Theft by Deception is a definite crime, is there anyone here that lives close by who can file a complaint on your behalf? Maybe by giving some form of limited power of Attorney a member here can go to the local Police and have a warrant issued.

yet another member who never posted outside of the exchange. This is proving to be a huge red flag for me and I now would never deal with anyone who does not leave the exchange.
