SCAMMER Chuck Westig

@Chuck1609 tagging him on the offchance he hasn't already seen this thread :(.

~Chip

Chuck1609 has not been online here since Monday. Under the new forum software, the mods do not have access to email addresses. However, the address Garrett posted is the same one posted by Chuck1609 in several sales threads.

Garrett, was this the sales thread from which Chuck1609 contacted you?

edited to add:
I have emailed Chuck1609 using the email he posted in several sales threads. I have asked him to respond to this thread.

That's not the specific one. I posted a trade posting asking if anyone had a small sebenza to trade. So the original post should be in the trade section.

His email and what I was promised his address is in the picture.

I was extremely busy that week I wasn't really thinking.
You need to be way more careful. Trades are by far the most likely transaction to go wrong. You should avoid them until you have more experience and/or can dedicate your full attention. I personally don't do trades unless it is someone I know and trust. For all my years, posts, and transactions here that has been only 1 time. Seriously, get some more experience under your belt before you go into the exchange. Participate in the regular parts of the forum. Make friends and get a feel for the place more. Watch and learn before you participate.

As for this situation, I doubt you are getting your stuff back. Do you even know where this guy lives or even his real name? If he doesn't respond or send your stuff back, about all that can be done now is the mods banning him if they think that is the best course of action, but that doesn't really help you.

This isn't me crying about me not getting my stuff back I could care less I just want him to get banned and not scam anyone else. I want to help others.

Thanks for telling me what I already know

No reason for the snark Garret, he’s just trying to help you out.
The one trade Cray did was with me, also my only trade. We got to know each other pretty well by posting in multiple subs here.
Guess the moral to the story is to be extremely careful when trading and do some research on the member you’ll be trading with.

The OP has been listing his # in his sales posts for people to contact him. This is a BAD idea, as it allows people who are not members (therefore not accountable here) to easily contact him :(.

Sorry to hear about you getting duped, Garrett. I think the main takeaway is what was said by WValtakis. Don't give your phone number (and in my opinion, email address either) in a sales listing. This just gives people the opportunity to circumvent the forum altogether. People don't need to even login to the site to view items for sale.

That or he could have asked for the member's user name so you would know who they are here. Also, don't ship to a neighbors address (and if someone asks you to do so abort the transaction right then and there). The phone number or email in the ad was the least of the problems. Proper research and common sense need to happen above all else.

Chuck1609 was emailed and notified through the system of this thread. No contact.
His account has been banned. I'm sorry we cannot do more to get you a refund.

Garrett, I know this sucks for you and that you are out a couple of knives, but I do want to thank you for starting this thread and giving us all a heads up on this jerk. For what its worth, I'm glad the mods banned him.

It's amazing to me how some people can put so much trust into a complete stranger. MANY red flags here. The "ship to my neighbors" was laughable. Sorry you got taken friend but hope know the key rule now dealing with online strangers. TRUST NO ONE. BF is the only place i will trade, it's been my knife sanctuary for years now, have trust in many here. Will only trade with Gold member or higher tho, unless they ship to me 1st. Thank you for bringing this pos to mods attention and getting him banned.

Garret, you seem like a reasonable guy and act well out here, and I like to take people at face value. That changes if we do any commerce. That’s the moment I care about X and Y. I have learned a lot from reading these threads.

Buy the seller, not the knife. Then you’ll get the knife you wanted. Also, if it seems to good to be true...it is, most of the time.

Sorry this happened. He got banned. You learned from this, so it’s not a total loss. If you’re as young as your picture looks - welcome to being a young man. That role has thousands of lessons. Those lessons get much harder, as you get older. The underlying lesson here is be careful who you expose and subject yourself to being around.

Thanks, for informing the rest of the forum.
