It may be time for some changes to the “exchange rules.” Example:

All “sale, trade and want to buy” post to have a HANDWRITTEN note with sellers name, price, and the current date. All “trade” post to also included a picture of knife or tool with handwritten note with persons name and current date. This would give more transparency. NOTE: No editing photos and drawing the info on them, it must be handwritten on the note with knife or tool in the same picture. It’s inconvenient and it sucks, but we’ve gotta protect our community. Unfortunately, we need to be one step ahead of the curve.

Any other ideas??? For the “Knife Exchange”

P.S. I apologize if this has been discussed in the past. If so, please included a link to any previous threads - Stay tough n cool

I don’t know if it could be enforced in the rules, but if enough people started doing it, current members and newcomers might catch on and it’ll become a habit.

Kind of like removing the original sales price.
There was no rule that I know of enforcing it or discouraging it, yet most members do it.

If enough members do it consistently, in a few months it might become the norm.

The only way I can see the issues trades being resolved is by routing all trades through a proxy. This person put the same knife to trade with a few members. If the trade knife had gone to a proxy the scammer wouldn't have been able to get away with this.

NO.

if your deal participant that you're choosing to do a deal with has nothing to lose, example would be their name and reputation here on the forums that they participate in, theres a higher chance that you will be scammed.

I've never had anything go wrong so far, but I believe that's due to dealing with people who I've participated in forum activity with outside the buy sell trade forums

buy sell trade is a fun place too dont get me wrong. its secondary to me after the community aspect

Trading with those you know is the safest. With the way shipping costs are going up, using a proxy could be a bit expensive. Not as expensive as a total loss, but maybe enough to be prohibitive. There also is the extra risk of a shipping loss, and claims of damage done by the proxy. If he doesnt examin the contents, you could still land up with a rock.

I don't sell my knives and I don't understand why others sell theirs. Maybe it's because I'm 62 and know what I like. And if I need some money quick for some reason then I will just go to the pawn shop and borrow some money on a firearm or knife that way I don't lose them, and I can get them back. I don't just sell my stuff out right except maybe some extra scales or something.

Well, as someone who spent most of his adult life putting away nefarious individuals, the fact remains that criminals still abound and will always find a way to scam the wary and unwary both. (Sorry to say.)

That said, every step we each take to limit their progress is a step in the right direction.

I have lots of trees and rope...for what it's worth. ;)

Too bad that trees and rope aren't utilized more nowadays.

thats why I avoid any dealings with people who have low post counts or only just sales posts. That goes both ways, buying and selling too. Unfortunately, the portion of the forum I visit, is watched by a lot of flippers and scalpers, people who buy up knives to resell and profit elsewhere. All of them are added to an ignore list. Remember, if its too good to be true...

True. I stepped straight into his scam with carelessness and tunnel vision to secure a grail knife. I didn't bother to notice he had just joined a few months ago. Three positive feedbacks is of little to no value. Could have easily been avoided had I exercised a modicum of caution. He's still a bankrupt hollow shell of a human being but I assisted him in his deceit.

I think you're being harder on yourself than you deserve. It happens. More frequently, it seems, these days...which is unfortunate and perhaps a sign of the times.

Don't let it stop you from enjoying this avocation and the good people associated with it.
