Scandi folder

Okay guys here's the deal. My brother prefers my mora over a hollow ground fixed blade for carving stuff in wood. So here's what I need help with. For the life of me I'm having bad luck finding a folding knife for him that's a (scandi?) ground blade. No age doesn't matter but on a budget of $40 or less with no longer than a 3.6 inch blade. And not the cold steel one that I've seen either. Country it's made in or designed in is no matter to me neither is steel because I would like to teach him how to sharpen so just basically the cheapest knife possible. If it has pocket clip or thumb stud it must be able to be used by left handed. Please and thank y'all. Don't forget to have a merry Christmas.

Enzo makes a folding scandi and Dan Koster does as well. Both out of your budget though. You could get a Mora 511 and cut the tang out of the handle and make your own folder out of it, for probably around $40 if you had the know how.

I think you'll get more suggestions in General Knife Discussion. Thumb studs and pocket clips are OK there but not in the traditional forum.

Well those aren't required I just want something that folds. I just added that in case some did. And I'll post it there as well.

Please don't start the same thread all over the place, it's basically spamming. One thread in the correct place will do just fine and is more than enough. Your 2 threads have been merged. Be patient, the answers will come. Otherwise you can always search the forums and start reading the previous threads regarding the exact same topic.

At your price range the Cold Steel Finn Wolf is the only one I can think of.

Not a scandi-edge, but an Opinel will make for one hell of a wood slicer. Not a flasy one-hander, but it's inexpensive and great to practice sharpening on.

Closest thing to Mora-type grinds on a folder I can think of are from Eka and Marttiini. Unlike a typical Mora, they tend to have small secondary bevels rather than the single bevel/ zero edge Mora knives tend to have. Eka knives are fantastic, but unfortunately, they've really gone up in price over the last few years. I've never handled a Marttiini folder.

I have a Cold Steel Finn Wolff and like it a lot. Verdict is not in yet on the edge durability as I haven't put it to a lot of use yet b

Some of the early ones reported edge chipping and rolling, but supposedly they changed the grind slightly and resolved the problems.

I know it's the one knife you stated you weren't interested in, but there is not a lot to choose from.

It had a very strong lockup and no blade play and the handle is comfortable in the hand.

Check out Opinels. Picked one up in Paris last spring, a #8 Carbon. Thin blade (1095?) cuts like a laser. Just melt some hard floor wax (or even candle wax) into the groove to keep the wooden handle from swelling and binding the blade when it gets wet. Great tool, sort of a folding Mora.

The TBS Boar folder looks pretty cool but the price is over your limit.
