Scared to remove my small seb 21 lanyard

I have had a small sebenza 21 for about a year now. I EDC this knife. I carry both deep in pocket and clipped into pocket. I can deal with having a lanyard but have been thinking about getting rid of it since it gets in way while deep in pocket and it also stands out which is not always good in a defensive situation. Just feel weird taking it off. But then again I never take my knives apart to clean. I use them and then have some one else do that stuff for me. If I do take the lanyard off, I will keep that blue pin installed. Will it rattle really loudly? Please help!

It will rattle and you can definetly hear it. Would I say it's loud? No, but it's noticeable. Doesn't bother me one bit.

I have un-tied them and left the pin in and it didn't bother me at all. If it bothers you removing the pin is easy to do, or there are ways to leave the pin in and stop the rattle, but I will leave that to others who have done it to explain.

CRK provides the tools to take your knife apart if you so choose. The first time is nerve racking and slow. But the good news is, there's plenty of help in the form of video's to guide you if you need it.
My first time, I took pictures on my phone after each step I took, didn't mean it wasn't a PIA. Now, it's not an issue in the least bit.
Take the leap, take it down yourself. Once you do, you'll love CRK even more because of the simplicity of the knife.

By far one of the easiest knives to disassemble/reassemble. Chris wouldn't have included tools if he didn't expect you to service your knife yourself.
As Ajack said, take the leap and you'll appreciate your seb that much more.

Thank you all for the promising words. But, how do you feel about taking the lanyard off on my small sebenza 21? Think Its better without and less bulk? How loud is this clicky noise and how much does that pin shift around?

personally I feel its best to just take it out and leave it out. it doesn't do anything if you don't need the lanyard. you will save some weight even if just a bit. Does not affect rigidity of the knife or anything like that. Oh, and I tried to leave it in and it rattles. It annoys me that it rattles, like something is loose and will fall off, some people don't mind it, but I don't need a knife with rickety rackety parts hanging from it I just remove it

I personally much prefer the sebenza with no lanyard, but that is just a personal preference. If you are bored you can do a quick search and several threads on it will pop up for your reading pleasure:)
As for the pin, it will rattle if you leave it unless you mod it (more past thread reading required there!) I think you should just take the knife apart and remove the pin, and clean and lube the knife while you are at it. You will appreciate the construction that much more after seeing the way everything fits together. There are pictures in a sticky at the top, and YouTube has plenty of videos.
Have fun!

I do prefer them without the lanyard, except when I set one up to go clipless(loose in pocket). In that case the lanyard helps finding it in the pocket and helps my hand determine the front from the back.
I date back to before they had lanyard pins , so I don't miss the pin at all.

It's your Sebenza, it's just a matter of personal preference, some folks don't use, some folks leave them on.
I'm a fan of the lanyard, I've gotten several without lanyards and I try to replace them. If you're OCD, the minute rattle will drive you nuts. There's threads covering leaving the lanyard pin in.

You don't even have to take it all the way apart to get the lanyard off. Take out the screw closest to the lanyard, and loosen the other 2 until the knife can be parted enough to get the lanyard out.

I understand how you feel, i had the same hesitation but i was trying to change landyards to a different color.
I' m glad i learned how to dissasemble the knife. The first took me an hour and the second one just 5 minutes.
I'm glad i did it and it increased my appreciation of the Sebenza

Take the lanyard with the stud off.
Try it.
You could also try a different color lanyard, or install it without the pin (ody style).
A Sebenza gives you choices.

Confidence, friend. Confidence. You can do it. Go slowly and methodically, the first time. It will become easier with practice...;-)

I agree with everyone that taking the Sebenza apart somehow made me appreciate mine more.

The pin doesn't rattle much, it doesn't bother me. If it did, I'd use something easily removable, like wax or similar, to fill the tiny gap and stop the movement.

I can't stand lanyards on a folding knife, but I'm also not used to having one on. I would recommend taking the pin and lanyard out, leaving it tied on I mean, and seeing how you like the knife before cutting or untying the CRK knot to get at the pin.

To add to the great advice and opinions already given, every time I take a Chris Reeve knife apart and clean and lube it just right it feels much smoother when it is finished. If your experience is the same odds are you'll like the action of the knife more when you are finished than you did before, whatever you decide to do with the lanyard.

You guys are an inspiration! Sounds like I need to calm down and learn. The action on my small sebenza is tight and somewhat gritty feeling. I edc this knife mostly everyday in pocket so I am sure it needs cleaned out. What size hex key will I need to remove all screws on this sebenza 21? I use a torque driver and very anal about things. If I take lanyard off I will also take the pin out and keep everything attached incase I decide to put it back on.

Believe that is a 5/64

They really do go back together without much trouble and blade centered. They are the only knives I take apart on a regular basis.

Like someone advised, You Tube videos are there for your use. My 21 came with the lanyard and pin removed. I may insert and check rattle level, and remove if unreasonably annoying. Think you have that option also. Good luck...;-)
