Scared to remove my small seb 21 lanyard

Just start by taking the cord off and leaving the pin in and see how you like it.

That is exactly what I did this evening. Here are the steps I took.

1. Breath in and out deeply and let the body relax.

2. Un-tie lanyard end first.

3. Cut lanyard in middle so that the ends will slip threw the lanyard pin without hanging up.

4. Inspect and adjust mentally.

WOW. I am very happy with how it turned out. I can hear a slight tick back and forth play in the lanyard pin but its not bothering me. I would rather leave the lanyard pin installed so that I do not lose it. I see why guys take the lanyards off now. Thank you all for your advise and kind words. :)

When I removed the lanyard from my Umnumzaan, the lanyard pin just 'popped out'. Which I'm glad it did. I prefer the lanyard holes rather than having a pin there. Whenever I get around to buying a small Insingo, I'll remove that one's lanyard and lanyard pin, too. I doubt they all pop out like my Zaan's did, though.

Good work. I find the lanyard to be a hindrance to my deft manipulation of any knife I handle...;-)

Easiest way to stop the rattle: leave a bit of paracord in the pin, burn both ends of the paracord, and it will stay secure and quiet

I am actually in the market for an umnumzaan. Is yours new or an older model? I actually like the idea of the lanyard pin staying inside the knife.

You will just have to experiment to see what works best for you:) The first step in modifying your knives is the most difficult, soon you will not even think twice about taking them apart!

Wish someone made ti tie bars aftermarket that you could pop in there and it wouldnt pop out because it was like a barrel shape. I would buy that.

My Zaan's birthdate was in Oct. 2011, and I received it within a couple weeks after that.

I would be interested in something like that to.

Does the new production Umnumzaan knives have a lanyard pin that falls out? I would like to leave the pin in if possible.

Staysharp, if I am correct, I believe that all large Sebenzas, and all Umnumzaans, have pins that will slide out without the cord on it. The small sebenzas have edges, or steps on the pins that keeps them from sliding all of the way out.

I would recommend watching and reading tutorials on how to take apart a CRK, and that way you can lube your Sebenza with CRK grease and leave it like new again.

On most of my CRK's that have a pin that slides out, I insert a price of paracord through it, and pull it until I have barely a hair poking through one end. I then melt it and I cut the other side so that it is poking out about the same distance. I melt that side too, and install the pin on the knife, and then put it back together like normal.
And that is how I keep my lanyard pin to stay in, and not rattle. I think It looks nice to have the pin in there on my CRK's that I dont already have an aftermarket lanyard on.

OK. I will give that a try after I watch some videos and feel ready. I have the CRK grease, microfiber and Windex ready to go. Just have to get the nerve and drive to get it done. One thing I am worried about is, lock up. Mine is exactly half way and has not moved. I would like to keep it that way if possible. So far I am not missing my lanyard on my small 21!

Disassembled, cleaned, and put together my user 21 last night...three times. For the practice of it. First time with any CRK. My lanyard pin falls through without cord. Actually considering using a tiny (plastic?), bolt & nut to hold in place as I like the blue dot in that sea of grey. Will see how that goes...;-)

Yesterday I received my new plain jane small Insingo, and removed the lanyard immediately. It took more work to remove than my other CRKs. I was expecting the lanyard pin to fall out afterwards, like on my Zaan, but it seems tightly in place, so I'm just leaving it alone for now. I personally have never disassembled a CRK knife. I haven't got the nerve to.

I was also pretty scared when I decided to disassemble my first Sebenza. I searched and watched a lot of Youtube videos on how to disassemble and re-assemble properly before I did it. It is actually pretty easy once you've done it 2 to 3 times.. :)

Also, I may be the odd one here.. but I love lanyards & beads...

I tried carrying my large 21 cf with the lanyard for a while, since it looked so good. It is the knifeart exclusive and came with a two tone blue and satin ti bead, i really wanted to like it on there. Nevertheless i just cant do it, they get so in the way when actually using and manipulating the knife. i just removed the whole lanyard and pin assembly with no problems. I do miss the look of the blue pin on the cf scale but its just so nice and streamlined in hand without it. I think that's the way to go though. CRK is by far the easiest knife to breakdown. takes about 5 minutes to do a complete breakdown clean lube reassemble. just do it. trust me/us you wont screw it up. The only thing to look for when reassembling is that the washers are seated properly around the bushing before you tighten it. other than that its foolproof. Hope this helps. goodluck!!
