Scary Freaking Silence

Bruce, you must be talking about tools... I just can't imagine a knife so intriguing that would make you want to buy instead of building it! You are so talented I am sort of surprised that you wouldn't make a killing at a show of this size.

I was there 3 years in a row and didnt sell out once. Dont get me wrong, I love the show but when its that far away it has to pay or else its more of a vacation and my wife doesnt share my interests enough to call it a vacation for her.

Next year we will go to just to deliver a knife and have fun. Kaye loves Atlanta but doesnt want to hang around a knife show for 3 days, 1 day maybe but not 3 days. We want to visit some of the sights of the region. We rent a car and just drive around and get lost. Im wanting a GPS next time.

That is the best vacation... My wife and I went to Ohio last year. We went their with no plans at all, not even hotel reservations. We drove out into the country and stayed in some very obscure places. Truly the most relaxing week I have had since I became a responsible adult.

I was bummed I couldnt go this year , but the pain was eased when a box showed up Tuesday night , return shipment from Paul Bos , with 29 freshly HT'd blades.... so guess what I am doing this weekend !!

steel dust galore.

Another question for you, Bruce. Did you need to sell out to make your trip profitable?

Thanks,

Allen

It costs about $2500 to do the show so I needed to make that amount plus living expenses. If I was doing this as a hobby it wouldnt matter. Some makers bring home lots of cash unfortunately Im not one of them. My stuff doesnt always fit in there either. Im kinda lost as to where my customers are, apparently they dont frequent the Blade Show.

Bruce, If there is anything at the shows that is more desirable than your work I would be very surprised. I have been a huge fan since I first saw your work. BTW when you get around to making your next pistol knife, could you please consider another tutorial?

Thanks so much for the compliment.

My real passion is the pistol combos. I love knives and guns and have found a niche (at least for now) that is interesting and ever so challenging, unfortunately in the higher end of the price range. A pistol/folder will go for $7500+ which seems to be hard to justify for most knife collectors especially if they are married. How would you like to tell your wife how much you spent for that pretty little pistol that the postman just dropped off? The majority of Blade Show collectors are there for knives not pistols. Like I said Im lost as to where I belong.

As far as a tutorial goes for a pistol/knife, the trouble is each one is a "one of a kind" and is sold to my customer that way. I dont think he would want his gun showed to the world, but if I ever make one that isnt pre-sold I would love to make the tutorial. I also think I could put the tutorial on a CD and sell it for $15 each. Hey I am in business ya know what I mean? :) After the gun is finished I would put it up for sale here on the forums.

I do think other makers can do these. Its not as difficult as one might think. Patience is the key.

Those combo's of yours really turn me on! Fantastic there Bruce. Manuela and I were not able to attend this year due to terrible weather here in Central Texas. I had been invited to a very exclusive Loveless meeting at Blade. I hate that I couldn't go. I now have learned that my name and Knives came up several times in the meeting, along with discussions about them. Man, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that! Mike

Bruce
your pistols are about the coolest things
I have seen. IF you do make a cd I woud buy one for sure. i would like to make one for my self not to sell. not black powder just 22 long rifle.:)

I want to make one that shoots long rifle .22 but I cant legally sell it. It is legal however to make one to keep for yourself.

You could draw the tutorial on a napkin and I would buy it, CD or DVD makes no difference to me.

LMAO. :D
I sent a hand drawing of one to Dan Koster. He may make it someday. The last time I talked to him he was drawing it on AutoCad. If you like I can send you a copy. It has never been made but it is a great drawing. You can scale it up or down to fit your liking.

I've drawn it up in CAD....I'm waiting for the "mad skills" to increase to the point where I feel comfortable making it! :D :p

Glad you had a good show. Im going next year but probally wont have a table.

Are you having the parts cut out for you? 1018 will work but 1095 would be better if They need to be hardened for test purposes.
