Scenario: All over by dawn.

Scenario does not work. Limitations are too tight: predators are all over my area (not sure what significance that has to incoming nukes), and, while there is a legitimate target near where I *live*, anywhere I camp, I am either far from that site, or I'm close enough to roads to *move* when needed.

Just sayin'. But if I'm camped near that site, and my truck don't start when I wanna leave, I guess I'm gonna have to do what I can to survive.

I'm gonna find a draw, and get in the stone and dirt out of the way of the blast. Then, I'm gonna evac the blast zone and get treated for radiation exposure. Unless I am sitting on the blast site, I'm gonna survive. So is the planet.

Yeah guys, about as depressing a scenario as I could think of..I know it's a weird thread, but what drove me to ask was we spend so much time here talking about how to survive, that
I was really curious to see your perspectives if all our tricks were no longer of any use.

One day, we'll have our last day, for some of us that's sooner than later.. I hope that with all of our prep to survive this life (and whatever curves it throws at us), that we don't forget that facing Eternity, and the God who made us, is just a heartbeat away.

"Many things about tomorrow I can't seem to understand..but I know who holds tomorrow, and I know, who holds my hand."

Pitt..sorry, forgot about your dogs, of course they are with you!!:D

Phew !:tears_of_joy:

1) Ask myself why some idiot is nuking a scenic area that has enough wilderness to be of camping value (as opposed to an area with industry or some other tactical or strategic value).
2) See how fast my truck will go trying to escape the situation (I'm not going to sit and wait to die).
3) Pray and ask God to watch after my family and turn the launch site into a modern Sodom & Gomorrah.
4) Remember this thread and wonder why I made an excuse to get out of going to that dreaded wedding!

There is no way I'm sitting down doing nothing.. I wonder how much information would I get from the radio?? If there is any hints of where they think the Nukes are going to land and where it might be safer. Going to take the most min of what I need so I can move fast. I'm going to get my smelly A$$ out of there. There is no way that I'm going to sit down and die. I'm never going to just quit and die, I'm not a quiter(sp). If I don't make it and die atlist I die doing something. If I do make out and live. Then Im going to do what ever it takes to check on my family and get my self in the best position to live as good as I can. I would be willing to do what ever it would take.... Remember the saying that good people die young/early??? I intend to live for a long time..

Everyone dies when a nuke explodes on them.
This thread is for deciding how you'd face inevitable death, with all hopes of superhero fantasies of survival taken out of the equation.

Btw..you wanted to detox this weekend, so you left all the party favors behind..you'll be stone sober till'
the end

In THAT CASE

Sorry to the mods.:D;)

I think you're overestimating an atom bomb's blast radius. A few hours is more than long enough to get away in time, even on foot. (Assuming you hurry a bit.) And I think I heard about a guy in Hiroshima or Nagasaki who was in a basement only a few hundred meters away from ground zero and survived. Something to do with the blast of an atomic bomb being directed outwards much more so then downwards. A Hydrogen bomb, on the other hand, is a lot more powerful. It might be inescapable, maybe. Y'know, you really need to clarify these things...

But, what the hell, I'll bite anyway. I'd probably hike back to civilization and see how everyone else is reacting. That's gotta be interesting.

I'd be doing everything I could to survive. Even if I'm clearly in the blast radius, even if there's no way I can make it, I'm still going to start running for the edges and doing whatever I can to survive. It depends on what I know I guess. If I knew exactly where and when the bomb was coming in, I'd run as far away as I could, and if I'm still in the blast zone 15 minutes before it hits, I'll try to dig a ditch and find some cover. Slim chance, but I'm not going to sit back and relax when I *might* live. I just can't sit still and accept it I guess.

Stoke the fire, Pink Floyd on the MP3, crank up the portable speakers and wait for the show.
I detox from soda pop with Knob Creek so it's all good and no need to worry about those dang hangovers at dawn!

clicky

I agree with Stabmans estimation of this scenario. I took it not as "how to survive a nuclear attack" but "what would you do knowing the end of your life happens tonight and you are in a remote area(no chance to be with family)" .

This IS a survival/outdoor enthusiast forum. But none of us get out of this life alive and since we like to work out our response to situations of survival in advance, why not consider our response to non survival?

Having watched death take people, the subject of dying is germain.

Good question, one that is usually avoided. I would say my daily prayers, and then look for the best place to start digging an improvised cave. It's not in my nature to sit and do nothing. Probably a useless gesture, but I like to think that I would go down swinging.

If you do decide to attempt to find shelter from the blast, make sure you shelter upwind of the impact site. Fallout will travel with the wind and so will any fires initiated by the heat.

Grrrrr...

Okay, it's a saturation bombing of the entire country with 25 megaton thermo-nukes, with overlapping blast patterns, followed by a second wave, just to make sure you're all dead, and dead again. And wherever you're at also gets hit by the third wave, which consists of bunker-buster nukes.
NOW what do you do?
