You have a special knife on you, like a sebenza or something, and a stranger asks to borrow it and for this scenario, you said yes, and he came back and the he broke 2/8 of the blade, on the tip, off. What would you do or say? lol, this never happened, just wondering what you guys would ever do haha :)

I don't know why anyone would let a total stranger walk away with a sebenza unattended...

I always carry my leatherman juice so I never have to lend out my good knife....don't get me wrong I abuse the crap out of my umnumzaan and other higher end knives but it's a different story if I break it. The only other person i would allow to use my higher end knives is my cousin cause like me he is addicted, that and if he breaks one i can always confiscate his xm-18 haha

It wouldn't have happened to me because I wouldn't have loaned it out.

I learned at an early stage, lending a knife or axe is the fastest way to lose a friend (or something like that). This is how the conversation usually goes. "Can I borrow your knife?" Me: Where is yours?....."I dont have one". Me: "Then go buy one". I know its rude, bur really, people today dont know what to use tools for and they dont handle other peoples belongings like their own. If you break something you borrowed, you replace it. Done.

I rarely lend my knives out, but for the sake of discussion, I would then break the other 6/8th's off in his spine.

To answer your question, I would say something like "Wow, this was a very expensive knife and it needs a new blade. I'll find out what it will cost and let you know so you can pay for the repair."

But the real answer is that I wouldn't give someone "a sebenza or something." I'd say, "sure, I have a knife here, but the lock is a little tricky - let me come over and do the cutting for you" or I would say "yes, I do have a knife, but it's very sharp and a little tricky to open and close, so I really can't loan it to other people."

I knew you guys were going to say this, say you were extremely drunk or something, and for the sake of the story you DID loan it.

i learned my lesson when i let my coworker borrowed my spyderco military. he ended up chipping the edge when he struck a staple while cutting up cardboard. now i learn to always carry 2 knives. expensive one for myself, and a cheap one.

I wouldn't loan a knife to a stranger. Too much liabilty potential when they whack off their finger.:)

You almost can't blame people for having no respect for tools and such. Due to the american throw away culture and cheap cost chinese imports.....most people would think any knife was $15 bucks max. Now if when you handed them the knife and they said wow, that's a nice expensive knife.......well. id expect them to say as they handed back broken I will replace this sir. I know its expensive, etc and I am very sorry, etc.

Of course I wouldnt loan anything to a stranger nor anyone I know well who has no respect for others things.

This. When people ask to borrow a knife I always ask "what do you need it for?" If it's for something reasonable...I do it FOR them. :p

I already gave you your answer. If you're so drunk you can't control your property, especially your blades, you should be picking up trash on the side of the road wearing an orange jumpsuit. Or, maybe just go back under your bridge...? ;)

I simply don't loan knifes to strangers. I seldom even loan them to close friends. If a stranger asked I would just say no sorry.

take it easy

I usually carry a main knife that I never loan out and a cheaper more ppl friendly knife like a SAK or a CASE Peanut that I can loan out.
