(Scenario) What would you do?

I always ask "what for?" and lend it out if the use is appropriate, or I do it myself. My edc knives, though they are of good quality, are users, common, and not tremendously expensive, so I am willing to take the risk. If someone damages my knife, however, I do expect them to pay for it. No problems yet.

Under normal circumstances I would say "Rule number nine!" and walk away (NCIS).
If it actually happened to me I would tell the person that he/she needed to pay to repair or replace the knife and get their info.
Loaning a knife is like letting you daughter go on a date you need to find out what the intentions are first.

Only my wife has unrestricted and unquestionable access to my knives. If asked for a loaner by anyone else, I'll cut it for them, reserving final rights to refuse if I change my mind.

You have a special knife on you, like a sebenza or something, and a stranger asks to borrow it and for this scenario, you said yes, and he came back and the he broke 2/8 of the blade, on the tip, off. What would you do or say? lol, this never happened, just wondering what you guys would ever do haha :)

My wife did that. Somehow she thought a narrow blade pocket folder was the right tool to chip tile grout. I think I maybe have trained her out of it by now, though.

A knife is a private tool, it is part of me.
If you ask me to land a hand, I would, but I still control my hand, same with my knife.

I've given away many more knives than I've loaned out. People who are strangers wouldn't know I had a knife so they wouldn't know to ask to borrow one.

If it was a friend or family I'd ask them why they needed my knife, and for what job. Often, if they aren't smart enough to have a knife they aren't somebody I'd want to lend a knife to, family or friend. Telling someone I'll cut it without checking the job out and seeing if it's suitable knife work is important. Non knife people quite often don't have the knowledge to see a job and decide it's unsuitable for a knife.

I don't have a bunch of patience with people who decide they want to borrow my tools unless they have a really good reason, and have already proven their competence and skill.
