Scenes from the Forest

Whenever I see this thread I can't help but think of Gordan Lightfoot, my son loves to sing Home from the Forest. I know not a nature song but I can't help where my mind wonders.

it's a 5-6 hour drive from where we're at, but it's a hard drive since the final stretch through the mountains and down to the ocean is narrow, winding and steep. Beautiful time of year to go, with all the big leaf maples having turned but with the leaves still on. Torrential, driving rain on the way home made for some sketchy moments!

the Shogun mini series was filmed there, and while I've never been to Japan it seems to me more similar than different. Although most of the indigenous culture here was wiped out, there are a great many aesthetic similarities, which I think is fascinating.

I'm almost 100% that mushroom is a king bolete/porcini, and I'm kicking myself for not harvesting it, but the thing was so damn big it just didn't seem practical. In between the pics I took, a day elapsed, and something dislodged it from the ground, which is why I was ok with cutting it in half. Lots of wildlife cams along that trail, as there are wolves and black bear all over the place.
