Schrade Extreme Survival issues

heh I was going to buy a Son of Dogfather til I started looking into this. Who knows, maybe it will save me 80 bucks.

Hey if you can find a SOD for $115, that is one hell of a deal even for a heavy user. I use my RC6 mainly as my in the pack, take it out to pry stuff or do the 'dumb things you shouldn't do with your knife' kind of knife. I find the SOD a bit heavy to haul regularly for that purpose. Mistwalker's design looks like a good one and budget priced blade that would serve this purpose well.

What was the weight of this one Mist? The RC-6 is 11 oz (14 oz with sheath) and the SOD is 15 oz and almost 20 oz with sheath. Those 5 oz make a big difference in carry.

The SCHF9 weighs right at 16oz...but I can't remember if that was sheath and all or just the knife, I'll have to look back through my notes....or another excuse to bug the pretty young lady at the UPS store :D . It's not a light knife at all. The balance is near perfect for me as is ( barely forward of the first finger) but I am thinking of drilling some weight reducing holes in the rear of the tang to both lighten it a bit and to shift the weight forward to help it chop a little better.

The knife alone weighs........15.7 oz

knife & sheath weighs..........21.4 oz

with a multi-tool..................29.5 oz

Good design Mistwalker, price point for the package with 1095 is a steal. I like the recurve, it is not too pronounced. It is on my when I can afford another knife list.

Thanks Brad, yeah i was glad to see it at that price to...I was originally told the MSRP would be around 70.00 so I knew it would be less than that on line.

I know the feeling! Lately for me that list has progressively been getting longer.

yes, I was thinking like the RAT design without a recurve. I don't mind recurve designs at all except that they aren't perfect for woodworking, a straight edge would be best for drawknifing etc.

I believe the website pricepoint is 119 dollars. I need to do more research in size and blade profile to decide on which of the beater Scrapyard blades I want, but I am DEFINATELY picking up a yardkeeper-what a sweet knife. the MUK may be in my future as a marine knife for whitewater rafting/kayaking and salmon run fishing trips.

I like recurves except for the sharpening... but I was thinking about one that was still a weight forward design that would be good for chopping but just norrower at the ricasso and wide at the tip without the recurve...a little bit longer blade though.

Alright, I gotta ask. Where are these available? Hopefully it's not deal spotting since I asked, but if it is, could someone PM me where they're available? I've checked around a couple of the more common(at least that I'm aware of) online stores, and can't seem to find it. Seems to be a wicked blade, especially for the prices mentioned here. Thanks guys.

Sorry to bring this back up, but TwoWolves doesn't ship outside the US, and Knifecenter shipping charges are absolutley retarded, I don't want to pay $25+ plus fees to ship fedex, or $36+ via USPS for a knife that sells for $40. So I gotta ask again, is there anywhere else this is available? I want one of these bad, and I'd probably pay $80 for one if that's what they sold for, but it's the priniciple behind not paying the shipping charges that counts:p

Hi Payette, my apologies if you already are aware of this, but from your post I don't think you are; Scrapyard knives are just like Busse and Swamprat, you can't just buy one, they produce them in runs, so if you want something other then the one or two currently being made, you have to buy in the BF exchange or eBay and pay what the market demands. Scrapyard makes it confusing because of their website listing the knives with their original prices, it makes it look like you can just order up whatever you want, but no such luck. IMO they really need to change the site. SOD's go for about $200 usually. I have a Dogfather and it's a beast of a knife. The handles are thinner and harder then they look in pictures, but they still work well and are super tough.

There's no reason why shipping to BC from the States should cost that much. I sent a machete to Australia for about $12 less.

I think its taxes imposed by the US that causes the shipping issues. I didn't know that about Scrapyard... schmuck! I was really excited about buying a yardkeeper!

Not a bad looking knife for the money, I don't really like any recurve but that's just a me thing.
