Dale, I have a Daddy Barlow that I didn't see on your list. I have seen it described as a "280" and it usually has Uncle Henry handles. This is a big Barlow, 5" closed, 9" open. It was used for the Schrade 80th Anniversary and for that occasion, came with Staglon handles or Bone. The same knife was also used for a Matco Tool Anniversary (45th, I think) knife.

Wow, that's a big list of knives. If I overlooked this one somewhere, my apologies.

Redshanks,
I do not have a catalog from 1984, which should be the year that was made. I am hoping to get some more catalogs before long. The info I have came from my own collection, people in the forum and the following catalogs:
1982, 1983,1987, 1988, 1989 Shortline catalogs, 1990 retail price list, 1991 & 1992 Shortlines, 1993 Dist. price list, 1998 shortline, and 2002, 2003, and 2004 retail price lists.
As you can see I have big holes in the mid 80's, mid 90's and anything before 1982. I am also just getting started on the lists I have to go back through them and list all the special editions.

Do you have the original numbers for the knife? Maybe the original price?

Dale

PS- That is a beauty! I am fond of Barlows.

Anybody know about the Schrade 97OT Single blade yellow delrin handle model. I can't find out anything about this knife. The current 97OT is a two-blade or Buzz Saw model.

rwolf1
If you can post a picture it might help us identify it. Most likely you have an end-of-days knife, when parts that fit together were assembled without regard for the pattern.
I have one myself that has Uncle Henry staglon handles and a single clip blade. I haven't seen one with yellow derlin.

Hope this helps, post a picture if you can,
Dale

rwolf1, Orvet is probably right, what we call an 'end of days' knife. The real 97OT is the Buzzsaw trapper, with a steel pick and tweezers that slide into the handle. One of my all time favorite knives. It was that knife, and a question about it's fantastic saw blade that first brought me to this forum many moons ago.

But your knife is a Schrade, and because of the circumstances above, a relatively rare, but not valuable one.

Phil

Thanks, guys, for the quick replies. Actually, I've owned this knife for about 5 years so would it still have been part of the end of days at Schrade?
-Ron

Thanks, guys, for the quick replies. Actually, I've owned this knife for about 5 years so would it still have been part of the end of days at Schrade?

That would put it 2001 at the latest.......probably not a end-of-days. Just one of those Schrade hear scratchers.........Idunno........maybe Codger or LT will know.

Not me. I've not seen a 97OTY. The single blade 197UH Cat Paw (3 9/16) or 194OT (3 3/16) frame is as close as I can guess without seeing it and having the dimensions. I just dunno. Can you post a picture?

Can anyone tell me what they know about the Schrade Wostenholm I-XL series, with five knives in a wooden case, ie what to look for, any years to avoid, overall quality?

These are knives produced by Schrade during the 4 year (approximate 1976-1980) when they owned this English firm. I have posted on this subject on numerous occasions. I do not feel like looking up exact dates any reference will give you the exact dates.( try Levine 4 ) Suffice it to say that these were some of the finest knives ever produced by Schrade. There were many difficultys in this corporate marriage however there are no knives to avoid in this group The particular grouping to which you refer are of the highest quality. Sorry I could not get back with an answer sooner. Please refer to the archives for specific references since to state as you request any possible information regarding this line would really be more in line with a book than a posting. If you have a specific question it would be my pleasure to help answer it if I am able . LT

of this list of ot & uh schrades that dale and or larry posted, which models were made with the pre 1973 walden marking??? sorry i am new to this site. i am a giant schrade only collector.

Dale,
Take a look at the IXL collection on the collectors-of-schrades-r.us web page. I posted a fact sheet with the specifics on the knives offered in the case plus.

vickip666,
If you don't have Robert Clemente's book you should. He lists all the OT & UH cataloged knives with dates and amounts. Its a great place to start.

Let us know if we can help.

Welcome vickip,
Your question is a good one. Most of the info I have & I think most of have is usually from the later years.
The oldest catalog I have is a 1973 (which was the year they changed from Schrade Walden to Schrade), and it only shows 9 old Timer patterns, (5 folders & 4 fixed), & 6 Uncle Henry patterns, (5 folder & 2 fixed). The rest of the stock listed were the 49er series (8 fixed blades), 8 folders in the RAZOR BLADE STAINLESS Series, (including the sampling knives), 5 Horticultural knives, a couple fixed blades & the majority of their knives were what was called Open Stock knives. In this catalog they list 35 different patterns. By far the largest category in the catalog that year.

You said you are a "giant schrade only collector." I am not sure what you mean by that. Do you collect only Giant Schrades? If so, what do you consider to be a giant?

I am not sure I have answered your question fully. In truth, many of the Open Stock patterns were probably the forerunners of some of the later Old Timer and Uncle Henry knives.
I would recommend that you get a copy of Robert Clemente's book on Schrades and I find Bernard Levine's 4th edition quite helpful on some points. I started collecting Old Timers and Uncle Henry's then I had to collect all their stuff. Now as I learn more and collect more, I collect from all the companies associated with Imperial/Schrade, which is quite a list of companies. there were several companies that Imperial bought along the way, like Hammer Brand. The little Hammer Brand pocket knife, your Grandfather picked up as a kid in the 20s, is a direct ancestor of the uncle Henry in my pocket. They all tie together, in a more or less direct way.

I hope this was helpful and didn't confuse you totally.
