Scottish Clan question: Does a male marry into a scottish clan?

What does a Scotsman where under his kilt when it is really hot outside?

What kilt?

Mutt,

If the groom wears a kilt so does every man in the wedding party. The last wedding I was to that was exactly the case. Your friend won't be the only crossdresser. :D

Sorry I have to post

I am Scottish, at weddings etc it is customary for the bride to choose what the groom will wear at the wedding. Get used to doing what your told it will make the transition from bachelor much easier :)

Kilt wearing
1. its not a skirt. Its very warm and quite heavy. You'll probably need a hand getting it together the first time :)

2. Do you wear anything under it. Yes, at posh events. Noone wants to see the grooms tackle when he slides off the table he's been dancing on. Out on the Stag night, nothing can be worn under the kilt.

3. Are you part of the clan? You can probably trace your family back to some sort of clan. We scottish are far travelled and breed like rabits when we get there. Do you have to join - No only if you want to. Clans are pretty much decorative now. Very few people bother with what clan they are in never mind who the chief is. If there is a chief theres an above average chance they are american or canadian anyways :)

4. What tartan should you wear? Tartans were an invention of the Victorians so they don't have any true clan meaning. Since its introduction though it has become popular to have tartans for particular clans. For non clansmen I would look out for "Flower of Scotland" as this is a nice tartan that has no clan associations.

5. Try it on, it can look a bit daft on tall skinny blokes but if you have a bit of beef about you then it will look fine. Plus most of the Scotsmen will be wearing one so you will not look out of place.

(did I miss the memo.... Mutt is getting married?!?!?!? )

Another side benefit... you can get Cindy all hot and bothered with a kilt pic! Mutt... you're getting married? Congrats if so! I say go for the kilt in the wedding. Another plus... you get to carry a knife in your sock too.:D

Mutt, Mutt, I really think I should be there to represent BladeForums at the service, don't you. Yes I certainly think so.

You can wear shorts under the kilt (I would).
All I wear under mine is every once in a while, a tiny bit of Talcum Powder; or on a couple of occasions, lipstick.

kilt

1. A knee-length skirt with deep pleats, usually of a tartan wool, worn as part of the dress for men in the Scottish Highlands.
2. A similar skirt worn by women, girls, and boys.

By the way, English has many words that come in pairs from Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian roots. There is a series of Anglo-Saxon words in /sh/ that pair with Scandinavian words in /sk/. For example, shell & skull, ship & skiff, and ... shirt & skirt: both words originally referred to a tunic, a long shirt that came down to the knees.

:D me thinks yuse just skirting the issue. now behave before your kilt.:p btw mutt congrats on getting married to a scottsh woman my wife was a McDougal before we wed, and you may want to consider very carefully what you are gettting yourself into.

und vat iff he hass a really big schvantzschtucker?

:D

I don't really want to know.

:D

I proudly can wear two- MacGregor and MacDonald, if you go far enough- and the accepted garb under it is nothing, save for formal events. The times I have donned my kilt, it has been for weddings and funerals, and those require smallclothes. :)

Cindy, do you know where he can get woad to paint his face blue?
Oh Yah, I have several containers of it already mixed up! I call it the Sherwin Williams woad stash. You may want to e-mail me Mutt.:D

Mutt,

If anyone asks you whether you're entitled to wear a kilt, reply, "You're wearing jeans but you're not a cowboy..."

Wear any tartan you like. The association of one clan/one tartan is a Victorian affectation. For a non-specific plaid, try Royal Stewart, Hunting Stewart or Caledonia. Even the US Marine Corps has its own tartan!

Nothing is worn beneath the kilt. (In either sense of the phrase, in my case ;) )

A kilt is a skirt as a Stetson is a bonnet.

Girls love men in kilts. Stand out!

Ard choille!

As does the Masonic Scottish Rite. Dad wears his quite proudly.

A kilt is very comfortable, cool on a hot day and warm on a cold day. A visit to the washroom is much faster. I recommend that everyone should try it at least once, and you can wear a knife in your 'hose' legally.

Me and the missus on our wedding day in June 1998.

According to Queen Victoria, the kilt is "a garment for manly men." Wear it with pride.
