Scratched brand new paramilitary 2!

It isn't a display knife, use it in good health, the scratches won't affect it a bit.
Best of luck.

A scratch? Pffft..... Just wait till your cutting shrink wrap off a roll of chicken wire, feel a hard tug, look at your knife to see this..

A chip!!!!! The horror!!!! The CPM S30V should have gone through that pesky strand of galvanized steel like melted butter![emoji2] [emoji6]

OP, I personally like scratches on knives. Like the others I feel they add character. [emoji106]

Now If you will excuse me. I am off to the Spyderco sub forum to complain to Mr Glesser about shoddy heat treat, edge grinding, and anything else I can think of.[emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji2] [emoji6] [emoji6] [emoji6] [emoji6] [emoji6]

(Yes I am kidding)

I have to say though, the PM2 is by the far the best knife I have purchased to date, theres just something about the way it feels in the hand.

It's a knife, the blades get scratched. Keep on using it, and don't worry it.

Honestly, a scratchless blade holds me back. I feel bad using it if it is a pretty package all together. I scratch mine on purpose, and thin the shoulders a tiny bit at the same time.
Keep the scratches, more will come.

I used to be a total stickler for keeping knives in perfect condition. I can tell you first hand that you need to try to resist this neurosis at all costs as it will drive you mad. In some cases these super fine scratches are actually there from being assembled and you just may never have noticed them until after you used it thinking it may have been you. If you want a knife to stay pristine the ONLY way to do it is to not use it. And that was the harsh reality I needed to understand. And production knives sitting in a drawer is a waste of money. These are not Rolexes or gold coins. They really are tools and part of the enjoyment is ever story each scar tells. And its a badge of honor that proves you actually use your tools. Pulling a knife out of your pocket in the same condition as it would be in its box only proves it could have stayed in that box. As its merely pocket jewelry if that is its fate. On the subject of being surprised it got scratched. They all get scratched. Even things like rocksteads with extremely hard blades can and do get scratched. And don't listen to anyone who says a knife can only be scratched by something harder than it. Its completely false.

Wow, PM2 for $230? I think you can grab one here on BFs for about $100.
S30V will scratch, not a big deal. This has nothing to do with it's capability. I'd be worried of the steel rolled, gets dull quickly, or chips. Otherwise, it's still the same strong steel you thought that you bought. Scratch resistance doesn't characterize strength.

I use to think carrying my delica 4 when i first started this hobby/addiction was a lavish act, even had a few mates ask me what i paid (around 100 here) and they were positively stunned! If only they knew how deep the rabbit hole went.

Scratches look good, but if you're fussy about it most spydercos clean up amazingly well with scotch-brite pads, just rub in the direction of the grind lines. I've gotten tons of scratches out of spycercos like that, they almost look brand new again.

Or you drop it! I don't know what it is about the PM2 but it's the only knife I have dropped with the blade opened multiple times

I love when people talk about what great hard use knives they know their coated knives are, and in their pictures, the coating is immaculate.

All hearsay and second hand experience no doubt... ;):foot::rolleyes::D \

OP, don't worry about scratches too much; they make a knife look like it's earned it's place in your life IMHO. Safe queens be damned. ;):D

T'is but a scratch OP... ;):D

DLC coating shrugs off crazy stuff in my humble opinion. ZT0100 vs. copper pipe.
