Screw Yer Warranty!!!

Nice work I've always liked this model of Medfords the best. I'd like to have one without the finger notches cut in it being a lefty. Congrats it looks nice with the heat added to that ti slab.

If they rounded the edges of the slabs and did away with the finger notches, that would be awesome. :)
Of course, as the full-size one is discontinued, I guess that won't be happening.

stabman stabman you have balls of steel (m390) at the least, you have inspired me.

Glad to be a source of inspiration. :D

So...you're the guy who rips the tags of your mattress and pillows...:p

Nice work, man. I enjoy your projects!

I tend to do the same thing to expensive backpacks...like cutting off the MOLLE on the water bottle pockets of a TAD FAST EDC or cutting the straps on Kifaru Antero and sewing FASTEX buckles on.....got to make it yours.

Have to find a use for all these knives, right? ;)

For sure.
It's a lot better to modify your gear by sewing on the items you want (or removing things that get in the way), rather than going without and being annoyed at the lack of utility you desire.

Again stabman stabman thanks for the inspiration, I've selected a bm torrent (beer budget) to be "all it can be"

I couldn’t agree more.
I really enjoyed this thread and your pics. Nice work on the coloring of the scales/clip too.

Thanks. :)
It was neat learning that the stove element was up to the task.
I have a MAPP torch, but need to get more gas for it...but turns out it wasn't required.

And as I stare at my knives and they stare back I see a zt770 that's just plain boring so it's a major overhaul on the torrent and a cosmetic makeover on the zt pics to follow

Cool!

That knife looks like it should never need a warranty. What did you do that voided the warranty?

Taking it apart voids the warranty.
So does soaking the knife in oil.

Sanding any part of it and heat colouring it most certainly voids the warranty. :D

But as you noted, the knives themselves are built so solidly that a warranty really is not necessary.

Ha that's kinda silly, there are only like 4 parts for that whole knife. But whatever, nice mods, I always enjoy your posts!

I think it's a case of making it so he doesn't have to waste time fixing mistakes idiots might make, for no money (covered by warranty).

Most people will not screw it up, because it is a very simple construction, like you said. :)

But those who do manage to screw it up can still get their knife fixed...there is just a fee involved.

I've seen where other makers changed their warranty when they starting getting too many returns for warranty work after "pimping" jobs gone wrong, or "mix and match" knives didn't work out as planned.

Ah ok, that makes sense. And I guess if I took the engine apart on my car that would probably void the warranty as well.

True enough.
But some people do just that.
Worked with a guy at the hospital years ago who bought a couple of junker cars just so he had tons of parts to keep his going. He had a buddy with a hoist in his garage, and they liked fixing and improving things.

I figure if a guy can do that with cars, I should be able to manage taking a knife apart and getting it back together. :D

Heck Id chamfer the handles too since you said screw it. I handled a few medfords. That is something they should do. Everytime I see one I think Greg would love to hold one of my sculpted handles.
The General and Marauder are my favorites.

I very well may at some point.
I'll take it out and use it more for a while, and see if I feel like changing it further. :)
