Yep, that's me. ;)

Here's another video that works on explaining/showing the why, what, and how... I do... what I do in my shop. :)

There are more to come... it just requires a lot of time for editing, saving, and uploading....

I'm ready for # 2

Those angle iron surface gauges are pretty handy

Since height gauges are the now normal, I've bought surface gauges for two bucks at auctions and garage sales.

Yea Sam, if you get time to make it around to those type of sales, I'm sure you could find them super cheap like that.

Mine was $10 brand new from Enco (on sale about 10 years ago)... I went and checked, they're $17.86 now. ;) I'm amazed they still sell Starrett surface gages (which ruin about $300!).

FWIW- I'm tapping my foot waiting for youtube to finish their part in uploading #2. ;)

Here's part 2... :)

Thanks for posting it's perfect timing I have a couple hidden tang hunters on the bench.
I really like your handle and blade lines.

Back in the day at a Guild Show, Dalton Holder - Cutlery Handle of Fame member - told a good friend of mine, "We're in the business of selling knife handles.".

Thanks guys. :)

PT Doc- I appreciate that. It's definitely different... but I am doing well. Thank you. :)

Karl- I've heard Tim Hancock say something just like that, so there must be something to it. ;) :D

Here is installment number 3. :)

Another awesome, informative video. Thanks buddy!

Very nice. I was just talking to Jason Knight the other day about doing a handle shaping video. A lot of similar methods here. Thanks for taking the time to put this out.

You even broke it up into three easy segments. Your videos have always been pretty cool.

Nick - Thank you for this video series. You have a "way" of 'splainin stuff so even I can understand and learn.:D

I'm still at the point where I'm constantly scribing reference lines in order to maintain symmetry ... draw a set of lines, take some off, draw another set, etc, etc. At some point this becomes somewhat useless and I just start smoothing out the contour. I'm pretty sure that my handles would turn out all wonky without this process. You seem to do this entirely by eye/hand without the aid of reference lines..experience??

I would be concerned that shaping the guard/spacer/handle transition on the grinder would create too much heat and jeopardize the epoxy bond. I assume the platen cooler, fresh belts, and not lingering in one spot is the key here?

I'm also taking a page out of your book(so to speak) and will be protecting my blades your way, and never with painters tape ever again.

Thanks Nick.

Where the heck was this about 3 months ago when I was doing my first Bowie with this shape handle?

Just kidding, as always very good info and much appreciated. WE LOVE YOU NICK WHEELER!! :)
