seal pup and seal pup elite

Do you want your knife to be made in Seki Japan or do you want your knife to be made in Taiwan? Or do you care where its made?

personally I do not care where my knife is made, I only care about its quality.

when I buy a knife I expect to own in for good, so I dont really care about resale value.

Well I am just going to mainly use it for camping this summer and I want a nice knife to gut trout and maybe use thought the year. I have heard many complements about the sheath, does it really suck. How well will it hold and edge also should I buy a sharpening kit for it? I need something new since my last S&W extreme ops knife now is starting to fall apart.

I know it is too late for you for me to comment on this now but my friend has an elite and he says the rasp on the back of the blade is great for scaling fish

I have both, and the Elite seems to fit and feel better in my oversizes paws. My Elite is a straight edge, and if I think I might need serrations, I carry my Trident with me. Not 100% sold on the Trident (serious blade wobble), but you can't go wrong with the Pup or my favorite of the two, the pup Elite. And to those considering the Elite, The Kydex sheath is, IMHO junk. When I ordered mine, I specifically asked for the nylon sheath.

I've read quite a bit about the reported pros and cons of each blade. Unfortunately, I still can't find a good explanation of what the hardcase black TiNi blade coating is. Perhaps the SOG moderator can explain what this is, how it differs from (and is supposedly "better" than) the powder coating.

The bottom line is, I'm looking for a good dive knife (lots of salt-water contact) and like the SOG line. What I need to know is which steel & coating combination (AUS8 + TiNi or AUS6 + powder) is going to hold-up better. I'm not a steel-junky, but want something durable and sharp.

I'll probably be getting the Kydex sheath for diving; does this really rub off either of the two coatings? If it did, would that significantly compromise the corrosion-resistance of either steel?

Thanks for the help! Keep up the good discussions.

I have the seal pup I've used it for 2 weeks solid in Molokai and on the rivers
and lakes in Oregon where i live.see my vacationing in Molokai post
no i don't know how to hyperlink. It's a great knife i did modify the serrated
edge by filing it down and making it have a 2"chisel ground at the area
where the serrations used to be kind of looks like the way the tracker
does with the dual edges

tyrantblade

The main difference between TiNi and Powder coating is that the TiNi actually embeds itself in the steel. This makes it extremely hard to remove the coating and actually you have to wear away the steel for the coating to come off.

Powder coating is basically a hard paint that is easier to scratch.

I own several Seal 2000's and several Tigersharks and they are awesome.

Well, I just put in an order for a Seal Pup Elite, w/ strait edge. Sounds like it's a winner, now I just have to wait and see for myself.

I don't have the Elite(yet), but I have the Seal Pup and the Field Pup. Both are GREAT knives. I would recommend them both.

They both fit my hand very well.
