Search BF with Google, Links, Online Survival Videos, and Wilderness Wiki Merged Here

Klippe has gotten a cool update. On the homepage, five random thumbnails are now displayed which link to their respective articles. The thumbnails should change when you reload the page. It probably sounds a lot cooler to me since it took about 3.5 hours to figure out. Anyway, you can check it out on Klippe!

If you have any problems with it, please let me know.

And in a brilliant moment, I figured out what has probably always been obvious to Wiki programmers: Templates!

This means that the five random thumbnails are now, not only on the homepage, but every article on Klippe. Yeah!

I'm trying to come up with a better name for the Wiki than Klippe. The problem is that it must be a unique made up word that is easy to remember, and easy to spell.

Is Wiliwik better or worse? Any suggestions would be awesome!

Alright, so the server has been upgraded, meaning that we're up MUCH more consistently and that pages load MUCH faster!!! The name has also been changed to "Wilderness Wiki" and can be found at http://wildernesswiki.org/. I've also implemented ads, and am now working on making them turn off for logged in users (though they're just text based on the sideline, and arguably helpful links). I suppose this means that this will have to be unstickied and/or deleted....

If one of the mods could clarify exactly how much I can mention the wiki now that there are ads, that would be great.

CanDo, you should upgrade to paid membership -- it's ridiculously inexpensive, and then you can mention more stuff. If the ads are just covering the costs, and you aren't profiting, then you have more leeway.

I am certainly no computer guy, but I finally figured out how to remove ads for logged in users, hooray!

Once logged in, the ads should disappear. Let me know if they don't, as that means I've messed something up.

I added a background image, which hopefully makes the site feel more like home and less like an encyclopedia. For those curious, the image is a lightened and blown up version of a ridgeline taken from a trip up Mount Pierce in NH. I'm decently sure though not 100% positive that the mountain shown is Lafayette.

Logo has been updated as well, so clear your cache!

Brian,

I sent you a message via AIM, but am not sure if you received it. If so, I amend the message to include that I'd become a member to run that. If not, do you have an e-mail I can message you at or another way to contact you - your e-mail is hidden?

Not positive which direction you where looking but if you were on top of Pierce my best guess would be Mt Tom and Mt Field but I can't be sure without knowing more exactly where you were and what direction you were looking. I don't think that Lafayette would be visible from Pierce. Lots of intervening ranges in between.

Of course you could have taken the pic from somewhere else and I could be totally wrong. :o

CanDo - I changed my AIM handle due to some strange difficulties with my old one. I had forgotten to fix it here, but it's current now.

Pict,

If you read this message, would you mind posting links to your videos? They're fantastic, and I'd hate for them to disappear into the archived threads.
