No matter what I put in the search window, it returns me to the advanced search page when I hit "enter", etc.

Anybody else having this problem?

I have this problem ALL the time!!!!! I hate it but sometimes it works....

The search function *always* fails with a zero sized reply when I enter more than one search term. It's been that way for months.

I just used it to search on both one and two terms (separately) and had no problems. I don't suppose it could be a browser-specific problem...?

Phil, I thought that might be it, but I've tried it with Mozilla and IE and Safari and w3m and also disabled my web proxy but it's always the same. I'll try it with windows and linux and bsd and solaris and see what I get. :)

UnixDork, are you using the "advanced" search? I always use that one, and it always works for me ...

I've tried it both ways, but it still does it. It's no big deal, I've just started using google instead. I just wanted to mention it because if others are having problems, they're not the only one.

Without what specific terms you are using, I can't track down the issues.

working now.

I wonder if it was just a temporary glitch....

But yes, multiple term search is very sketchy at best.....

Worse yet, trying to do a multi term search under a specific user

Or in a specific forum with a specific user....

bonks every time for me and has since the upgrade.

Kevin - try this one:

search terms = khukuri kukri

user = Bill Martino

I get a 404 error.

This is the kind of search we were very dependant on before the upgrade (in the H.I. forum).

Daniel, that's a better explanation than what I provided. I'm usually on the other end of support. :)

Kevin, if there's anything I can do to help please let me know.

Bill Martino has made 33,695 posts as of this moment, and a good many of them must contain the word khukuri -- far too many for the search function to handle. It's poor widdle silicon bwain gets overfull... You have to think of some less common word to search for. By the way it wouldn't help you if the search function could list all 10-20,000 posts; you don't have time to read them all.

No ****. Try refining your search terms a little, searching for khukri or Spyderco or blade doesn't work. We aren't google...

fine....I tried something else....seemed to work.

But, I tell ya....I've used more specific terms on other days and not been able to get anything except a 404....

caught me with my thinking cap off.....when I run into a snag, I'll post it here.

Dang....:footinmou

I have now tried all the stuff that used to stump me all the time....multi terms....selecting a specific date....specific forum....etc. all in one search.

Now it works.....

:footinmou

I don't understand it......sounds like voodoo to me....:D  :p

I cant get it to work today. "Page can not be displayed" error after a few minutes.

Search terms tried:

denning "big boy"
denning big boy

"Denning" by itself works.

as I understand it, the search feature pretty much bonks on three letter words....such as "big" and "boy". that would explain why "denning" works by itself.

hmmmm....that's probably it. Another unrelated board I'm on uses the same board software and it wont let you search on three letter words. It does tell you that though. Here is what I get on that board searching for "big boy"

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : big, boy

I wonder if it is looking for a file with that error message and cant find it...hence the "Page can not be displayed" error.

Jim

The search functions already worked for me, but for a weeks now I've been unable to get something else than "Server error - the server closed the connection while reading the answer"...
Can I do something about it or is it a BF server issue?

Thanks for your help,

Xavier.
