Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a new rescue tool to add to my EDC. I have the Leatherman Raptor for duty use, but I am looking for a simpler tool for EDC. All I need is a belt cutter and glass breaker. Any suggestions? I'd like to keep the budget at or below 60 dollars. Thanks!

Spyderco Assist Salt but it's over $60. I got mine for $88 so search around.

It has rust-proof H-1 blade and hardware, blunt tip, straight edge, serrated edge, whistle, glass breaker and rope cutter.

With a goal of $60 it would be hard for me to avoid going overbudget on a Benchmade Triage or the Spyderco Assist Salt pictured above.

Benchmade Triage with N680 steel is a great choice too but goes for $144-$161. They do have a law enforcement discount.

Yeah, there's always auctions and trades though. It's just the nicest example of exactly what was asked for that I'm aware of.

The Assist is great too, but it's still 50% over budget, by the time I could justify the added 50% I'd be bidding on used Triages.

I'm not much of a resource here.

Benchmade Houdini maybe?

Kershaw Funxion EMT has all the required features and goes for less than $60.

The Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Rescue Tool can be had for under $60 at auction. Most places want more. I don't know if it's simple enough for you, but it carries well in a red pouch.

My normal EDC:
Benchmade Mini Barrage
Victorinox Cadet
2AAA Streamlight
Aluminum pen
Carabiner with a pocket CPR mask
Small can of pepper spray
Chapstick
Glasses cleaning cloth
Small tin of Altoids
Conceal Carry piece

I would love to carry the Victorinox rescue tool, but it would add too much bulk to an already overloaded system. The others mentioned so far are awesome, but too far above my budget for a rescue tool. I thought about replacing my EDC blades, but they both have sentimental value. For the time being, I carry the resqme tool, but I want something a bit stronger. I came across this:

I'm looking for something like that, but have not heard of any reviews of it. Anyone know of any reliable tools like this?

The more you post the more I think a Triage in place of the Barrage is your best bet.

I've got one of the small Benchmade rescue hooks with the Malice clip, want it for $20?

That might help hold you over as far as a safe strap cutter, you'll have to shoot glass out if the Res-Q-Me doesn't cut it though.

Thanks for the offer, but I already have the Benchmade 8 Med rescue hook; it's just too long to stick in my pocket or on my normal belt. I would definitely replace the Barrage with the Triage, but My fiancé got me my Mini Barrage as an engagement/Christmas gift...can't take it out of my pocket, and I'm OK with that :) thanks though!

That's how I feel about my 707, I try to leave it but just can't.

Mine is actually a 7, about 3.75"-4" long, but it's probably not significantly different to carry than your 8.

Good luck on your search!

I'm sure someone will wail and gnash their teeth but Gerber makes an awesome one that works for under $25. It can be attached to a duty belt or a go bag easily.

Why would someone wail and gnash their teeth? I saw this one but couldn't find any demos. How do you know it works?

Curious...I have a Leatherman MUT. This tool has a strap cutter and a hammer; I wonder if the hammer could break tempered glass...

People have a tendency in these types of threads to recommend items that are either right at the threshold or above the price point stated. As to how I know it works when I scrapped my Bronco I had a leftover passenger window and I pulled a seat belt out of it for that exact test. It cut the seatbelt and it broke the window with minimal effort. Also as much as I have oogled the Benchmade Triage unfolding the cutter is another step whereas the Gerber cutter has a nice huge cutout for gloved hands and no moving parts. No wrong answers in this thread though they all are great choices.
