Searching for No-Nonsense small fixed blade

for the purpose you talk about, the Spot or the Hideway are what you're looking for. they are both designed as draw & slash, instinctive tools. Gross motor skills. And high-retention, with the fingers in the handle. Very hard to disarm, even a woman with weaker grip.

.I would recommend against a knife for self defense except a a backup. I would recommend a pistol if she cannot fit a 12 gauge shotgun in her purse.

If your lady is limited to a small knife, you might take a look at Emerson's La Griffe. I just ordered TOP's Street Scalpel for about $60. This knife also looks like it would be ideal for your purposes.

My wife will carry neither a knife or gun. I got her some pepper spray and I hope she'll never need it.

Consider the Hideaway, I think it would work well... though not in purse carry.
Other options include some of the cheaper makers.... even a CRKT Companion or the like?

Whew, a lot of choices as I see.
The hideaway would be nice but very hard to get here in Vienna. I always shop from www.wolfster.de they have quite an arsenal but mainly only big brands.
As far as I know they do have the following knives:
Fallkniven WM1
CRKT Falcon
CRKT Bear Claw
Camillus Arclite

No Randalls (too bad really), Emersons, etc.

I'll check those knives then.

Another vote for Hideaway -- also because Frontsite has good concealment systems that make the knife instantly accessible. And you can actually have it out without people noticing, if you are walking in a dangerous parking lot at night for instance. ^ ^

Voila, went to the knife store and bough the Cuda Arclite and the Bear Claw, now she can choose and my sister gets the other one.

And since I was at the local shop already I also bough myself an Muela Bison. Cheap but quite nice.

Concerning the hideaway: As I mentioned before, they are very hard to get here in Vienna.
