Hi guys im Searching for survival knife
The best one i can find in 200$

someone told me that the Fallkniven A1 is great
So guys please help me out
its for my birthday :D

smaller mountaineer is 205 which is not way over 200 and can be had for less if you look around on the bay or some such

They are great and have a loyal following on this forumit may be just what you want

i just have different preferences. my opinions have been colored by what i have done and things ive seen while in the army, lots of time spent out in the woods :D

crk makes excellent knive sin their one peice line

i like rat cutlery and i like ranger knives

www.ratcutlery.com www.rangerknives.com both can be excellent knives and they are well under your 200 dollar limit.

i didnt mean to come off as saying you should get a more expensive knife, i meant to say you should shop around and if possible handle different knives, everyone has their own preferences

I'd go RAT. The RC6 if ya like em large or the RC4 if ya like em a little smaller.

Handles on the RC's are better than the falknivens in my opinion. Blade steel and heat treat on the RC's are top notch as well, but they are on the falkniven's as well.

RAT cutlery's guarantee is the best in the industry bar none, and they keep it.

The A1 is a good knife, but for my buck the RAT cutlery products rate higher.

okie i will defentely think about the rat and CRK becuse im joining to army as well
(israeli army)
and i want a good tool that can serve me in in the hard terrain of desert.

One of my favorites (and it isn't that well known) is the Gryphon M35.

I have one as my 'garage/outdoor chore' knife and carry one in my SUV.
Good blade steel, decent size, each blade individually heat-treat tested, excellent sheath (with a pouch for a Leatherman-sized too) and more.

This place has them for an EXCELLENT price and I've bought many knives from them before:

My first question is: What do you want to do with it?
A real survival knife is a knife that you have with you, that performs when you need it to.
A "survival" knife is probably what you are asking about. If I were a betting man I'd say you want something that you can chop with, baton, whittle traps, cut, etc... with--keerect?

My other question is: How big a knife are you comfortable using? Obviously you don't want something big enough that it feels ungainly in your hand.

The FK A-1 is a good knife. It'll serve you well and they've been proven.

The RAT RC-6 is a damned fine knife. The guys at RAT practice what they preach, so they know their stuff.

Tramontina Machetes are excellent for the money.

Ontario's machetes are damned fine too.

The Cold Steel Gurka Khukri is a good knife and you can get them at knifecenter.com for around 100 bucks (the SK-5 version, not the San Mai III).

Might want to check out the ATAX by Ron Hood, too. It's not an ordinary survival knife, he calls it a survival "tool".

HTH.

ok ty so much
hmm i cant carry a kukri in my duty
im join the Special forces of the peratropres in israel (its calld Sayeret Zahnhanim)
so i can carry a max size of 7 intch blade

Go with the RAT 6 it wont let you down, 1095 is an excellent steel choice for dry environments like the desert. from one soldier to another get a simple combat/survival knife like the rat, no frills nothing to get caught or hungup on jumps, excellent retention with the sheath completley molle compatible. its an excellent choice.

im airborne qualified in the u.s whats the process like over in isreal?

btw some guy told mt that Swamp rat knife are amazing

they are but they are very hard to get ahold of, they are the less expensive brother of busse combat which are exceptional ,my favorite knife bar none is my busse hell razor.

if you can get a swamp rat m6 somewhere go for it... oh and tell me where you got it :D

Some of the tests they do are good replications of something you might see in a urban war.

Being that you are in a desert environment I highly recomend the Fallkniven a1, the hammer butt, rubber insulated handle, and vg-10 steel would be great for you.
I do not recomend CRK, most of their knives have very little lateral toughness and I find all their designs(except the pacific) to have bad ergos.
Busse is the king of toughness, my hell razor has taken some accedental metal on metal contact like a champ, but they are expensive.
Busse's companies Scrap Yard and Swamp Rat also have incredible toughness, especially Scrap Yard which I think is the best bet for you.
RAT cutlery makes extremely tough knives for how light they are, great company in general, I highly recomend.

The Fallkniven A1 is a great knife. You could also look at the F1 or S1, which are smaller. You'll get a lot of different advice on this forum, most of it pretty good, but it tends to complicate a simple question with multiple options to the point where all the options add more confusion than clarity.

You have already identified an excellent knife. You won't go wrong with the A1. But you might want to put some thought into size. Do you need a knife as large as the A1, or would you be better off with a smaller S1 or F1?

I was in the the Army in Vietnam. I never had much need of a large knife, and usually had too much other stuff to carry. But that was a jungle. You're in a desert.

Fallkniven is a premium brand well within your price range. You'll get more utility by picking the right size Fallkniven than switching to another premium brand in that price range.

Ranger Knives. I have heard alot of great things about the product and maker. So I just bought one today.

I would recommend the Fallkniven S1!
(I have 2 and they are excellent knives.)

(In a posting above I recommended the Gryphon M35, but didn't know that you have a 7" blade limit. The M35 has a blade length of ~7.5")

Mike
