Searching for Survival knife

Hi guys im Searching for survival knife
The best one i can find in 200$

someone told me that the Fallkniven A1 is great
So guys please help me out
its for my birthday :D

If you mentioned the Fallkniven A1 not just for he price, but also for the size that you are looking for, I'd say that in that range are several options, and the quality not always is reflected in the price. There are knives in the 100-150 range that are great, like the RAT6 that some guys have recommended, but my recommendation would start with the Bark River Bravo-2. A beautiful, sturdy and versatile knife, made out of A2 steel.

My second recommendation would be the RAT 7 from Ontario/Randall in D-2 Steel

Both great knives

I suggest you take a look to all the Bark River line. They have great knives. Some people would tell you that for a survival knife they would choose a smaller blade (4-5 inch). In that range, take a look to the BRKT Bravo 1. Another awesome knife for what you need:

+1 on the Bark River Bravo 1 or 2 knives. They were designed with input from military personnel.

d2 is a big no no it always has the possibility of cracking and snapping with mediocre use. i would also recommend sticking within the 6-10 inch range. i prefer just a simple 8-10in 1095 knife for firemaking and camping purposes. you can get one from ontario or kabar for about $45 and theyll last you a long time, but youll really appreciate the low price when youre chopping and abusing it. edit: also be wary of leather. leather sheaths tool steel and rain do not mix. coating will always rub off no matter what quality so youre going to have to keep it dry as best you can and a leather sheath wont help you

Maybe you're right about the D2. The 1095 would be more reliable in that case and in the same line the Ka-Bar/Becker BK7 would be another good choice.

Going into the paras? I'd buy whatever knife my Jump Master carries.

I guess you might need a "survival knife" that helps you survive the elements, not necessary stabbing bad guys. Then you dont really need a big knife. The Fallkniven F1 was developed as an AF survival knife. It is more a outdoor survival knife (splitting wood, carving things, gutting animals) than a combat survival knife (chopping holes in cars, splitting bad guys in two and so on).

I know the Swedish armed forces has not been in a war for 200 years but the F1 is very popular with any army/reserve/homeguard unit. It is a very reliable and sturdy knife and not aggresive looking (if that matters in a war zone).

So my suggestion is either the Fallkniven F1 or the S1. The RC4 or Bravo 1 might be good choices too.

nodh is right about this. Even the Bark River Bravo-1 was not designed for fighting, but for utility in the outdoors. By the way, so was the classic Ka-Bar combat/utility -- it was copied from an early Marbles Ideal hunting knife.

I like many of the suggestions already posted here in this thread---BRKT and RAT high among them.

I also wanted to mention Doug Ritter's design, sourced from Benchmade. For about two hundred dollars, you could get the RSK Mk3 fixed blade knife. It features excellent input from the very knowledgeable Mr. Ritter, a very useful stonewashed S30V blade with excellent edge geometry whether you're cutting things for personal survival or self defense, and it has Griptilian-ergonomic G10 handles. The sheath that it comes with isn't my favorite, but, with the $165 knife, you can afford to get an excellent jump-rated sheath from Spec-Ops Brand or any other custom or production sheath maker.

Good luck. :)

I have a swamprat chopweiler and love it but I don't go in the woods without my Fallkniven F1.

Just want to say to the original poster, that I support Israel, and may God bless you and keep you safe. Oh, and to stay on topic, I dig the RAT.:D
CJ

Keep your gun clean and your head low soldier, the IDF is one tough army.

IDF or Zahal are one of the best armies in the world :D

The new rat sere looks like it will be cool or rat rc 6- great people and great bang for the buck. Swamp rat ratmandu is a GREAT knife. For me,I like blades in the 5-7" range with res c, just more comfortable for chopping/shelter building imho...my go to blade is the Camp Tramp.

I went all aroung the world for 26 years and used three knives consitently. A Buck 119, 112 and a Victorinox climber. They did everything from opening ammo crates and C rats to skinning rabbits during survival training. The very tip on the 119 broke off, I can't remember what I was doing. But I filed it to a point again and it's actually better now, stonger. All the suggestions I've heard are good I think, I'd just make sure to cover the large, medium, small catagory and you'll be good. Although I wish RAT,Barkriver and Fallkiniven would have been around years ago, they look like they'd be outstanding.

Actually the Fallkniven knives has been around since 1996 when they were first issued to the SwAF.
One good thing with "mass produced" Fallknivens compared to "handmade" Bark River etc. is just that. Even if it might have a great sentimental value, as being the knife you got from X at Y etc. it does have a quite moderate economical value, and as so doesnt make you bankrupt if you, "insert generic god" forbids it, manage to loose it or destroy it.
I have a huge collection of them at home so I dont really have to buy new ones in a while, but I do anyway.

Good luck with the choice of knife.
