Sebenza 21 size...sorry!

Sean K, I'm going through the same agony as you were in selecting a size. I've been thinking about taking the plunge to the Sebenza because no matter what I buy in a production folder, I'm left wanting more. I feel like I need the best.

I handled both a plain large and small Sebenza for the first time today. I feel like a Sebenza right in the middle would be perfect. A Para 2 is about as big as I like to go in a carry knife, and they seem to be about the same overall length. I was surprised at how big the large Sebenza's blade was, definitely larger than a Para 2. I know this knife was made for work, and it'd be perfect for that, but for me it will be an EDC plus take the place of all my formalwear folders. If I go to the woods I wouldn't carry a large Seb anyway if I had one. I almost wish the small Seb was smaller so I wouldn't be enticed to get it. There's a part of that feels like if I get one, I'll always want the other size. The small would take care of 99% of EDC tasks, but the large is cool too. They were both fine in pocket to me. Neither felt heavy or cumbersome. The large was second kind of cool, but almost felt like it was a bit too much..

Well this is awkward... Right after I hit send on this post, a nib small Seb popped up and I'm now the proud owner of a Sebenza :D

Now the fire sale of the knives that won't be ever be seeing any pocket time starts.....

I hope it works out for ya. Mine arrived today and while it's certainly an outstanding knife, it won't be staying. The handle is just to small for my mitts. I'm tempted to try the large, but at this time I really feel it's more blade than I will feel comfortable exposing. For now I'll stick with the 940, I really like its size and feel.

I'm a somewhat big guy at 6'1", 220 with size large hands yet thin fingers and the guy at the shop was saying, "you're a big guy, the large is probably more suited for you" but I just kept feeling like it was too much. I think I held the large more trying to make myself like it more. I find I have a lot more precision with a smaller blade in all of my EDC tasks, but I just didn't want the tiny and awkward handle like a Benchmade 707 has. The small was just right, in this regard. Though I wouldn't complain if it was scaled up all around to a 3.25" blade.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Mine felt small at first but when I used it I didn't notice it being small if that makes sense. I think when you just hold it you think about the size more than when you are actually using it, but that might not be the same for everybody.

Small micarta insingo with double studs. Gorgeous knife. With the lanyard (which looks really cool) the purchase was decent, except I'd be removing the lanyard as I don't want it sticking up out of my pocket. So without the lanyard, I'm positive I wouldn't like the fit as a general purpose knife. I'm debating the large, but hesitate due the longer blade in my environment.

Sorry to hear the size wasn't right for you. I've only owned a small Sebenza for a couple of days. I'm more of a larger knife kind of guy so I stick with my Umnumzaan Large Sebenza and 25 but they may not be the best choice in an urban environment.

I thought I'd update this thread with a pic of the small's replacement -- a pre-owned 25 that I bought locally. I was very tempted to order the large micarta insingo (and may still), but thought I'd try this one first to see if the large would work. It's in good shape though did need a cleaning/lube. This size feels much better in the hand, and I really like the shape of the 25's blade.

Have a great day, all.

Now your talkin! I prefer the large over the smells myself, the 25 is a great knife.

If you get a chance to try an Umnumzaan you will like the feel of it as well! A Star-Tac is my normal EDC but since I picked up another 25 I've switched back to my "first" CRK which is a 25. One of these days if the "right" small comes along I will grab it but for EDC I prefer the large versions. Glad you found something you like.

Yes, the Umnumzaan is one I'd like to try as well. I really like the hash marks in the scales -- and the ceramic lock up. Just a really cool looking knife. It was my preference actually but there's no stock in Canada other than than a tanto version. I see them come up here FS...but always conus only.

Congratulations on your new knife...both of them! Many of us have probably gone through the same 'self debate' as you've shared with us. I certainly did. There were no local or area knife shops where I could hold the crk's in hand which makes all the difference. I ended up with the small insingo micarta - for me it was the perfect choice (both for fit and use) and has never left my pocket since I got it. Ii use my knife in an urban environment. Much later, I did have an opportunity to pick up the large sebbie and enjoyed it very much. For what I use a knife for, both models do a great job. But for shear comfort in my hand and in my pocket, my small insingo was 'the' knife. I gave the large sebbie to my son who loves it - he is more of an outdoors person than me so it fits his occasional 'heavier' uses perhaps a bit better than mine. However, I often wonder if I had bought the large sebbie first would I have really felt the difference I think I feel now? Maybe it's just loyalty to my first CRK! Bottom line - you just can't go wrong with either knife.

Last update: the small insingo is the EDC winner for me. The 25 is a nice knife, but a little too much blade to deploy in the office. I've gotten used to the small's size and just love the micarta inserts and insingo blade.

I'm a happy man. Thanks again to all that chimed in.

That's great. The small, as I said, had to grow on me too and I now find myself grabbing it more than my 25. The 25 is still my favorite but I find the size of the small 21 great for social settings.
