Sebenza 21 vs umnumzaan pivot

I think the umnumzaan is fancier, but i like the pivot design of the sebenza better. How different does the seb feel than the zaan?

All good, just different. :)

I think you would have a hard time picking out a "favorite" handle style (feel wise) between the two. My suggestion would be to handle them both.

Nowhere around here is there a good knife dealer that i know of. Only decent knife place around here is a place called north cove outfitters, and they barely have a selection.

You seem to be leaning towards the Sebenza. Grab one and see how you like it. :)

I have large and small Sebenzas and also an Umnumzaan. I tend to carry the Umnumzaan more for some reason but the Sebenza is so easy to clean and maintain. For sharpening I have just touch up with my Sharpmaker. Very easy and quick to do. I do also have a loaded strop for that super sharp edge but that takes more work.

Between the large and small seb's, which do you prefer and how much of a difference is there actually? Also, why do you think you like the umnumzaan over the sebenza?

As for lg. or small Seb, that's up to you. Do you prefer smaller or larger folders? The small Seb's 4" closed & the blade's just under 3". Lg. hands might find it a little small, although the lanyard helps in that respect. The lg. is just under 4.75" closed & the blade's about 3 5/8".

On the Umnum, that is about the same size as the lg. Seb. It's definitely more "tactical" looking. It comes with double lugs & they act as blade stops, too. The Umnum's pivot is conventional, but large. I can't see having any issues with it.

Out of the box, the Umnum seems to be smoother opening/closing, although my current EDC (A lg. reg. Seb) is the smoothest I've had yet & I've had about 8 different Sebs (Lg. & small) & 2 different Umnums.

As for inlay vs plain, it depends. For inlays, I always believe the micarta versions are the best. However, I like Sebs with an aftermarket G-10 scale, too (On the non-locking side). They help with grip if plain Ti's an issue for you.

Unfortunately, the best way to figure out which is best is to go to a knife store that has a few to check out. However, I fully understand that that may not be an option.

As for whether to get double lugs on a Seb, if you choose that, that's up to you. I've only had one double lug Seb &, honestly, didn't feel it was needed. The other lug is very hard to operate, especially if you have large thumbs. It just didn't seem like it was needed.

Good luck with your choice.

although on paper they appear not to be too different, in the hand they are very different.

i have med hands, and always find the small too small. ive tried 3 of them and always end up selling/trading.

the large carries like most small-med folders, but has a cutting edge that most would consider to be on the larger side.

Well, my favorite folder in the production knives is the kershaw blur. It feels very comfortable. I like the size of the blade & handle. I like my handles tall, but width isn't important all that much. I can only have a 4" blade max where i live so.

The lg. Seb & Umnum are closer in size to the Blur, although they're a little bigger (By about 1/4"). However, the lg. Seb & Umum's blades are bigger (About 3 5/8" vs the Blur's 3 3/8").

Myself, I'm torn. I like both the lg. Seb & the Umnum. I started leaning towards the Umnum, but have settled back into the Seb (A lg. reg. at the moment). I like its classic looks (The Regular, Classic, or 21) & the bushing pivot. Again, I think the Umnum's more tactical looking. That's not necessarily good or bad.
