Sebenza 25 in car wreck

For those who asked this did happen on I-65. We shut down the highway for about 2 hours I think. I realigned the knife in my hand to see what parts I cut myself on. Turns out I was squeezing so hard I sliced myself with the blade, while it was closed!!

Last night my roommate and I were driving back to school after break and somehow ended up on the tail end of an 8 car pile up. We ended up with the drivers side of the car landing on the ground, had it not been for the guard rail who knows how far we would have rolled. Anyway, after asking each other if we were ok we needed a way out. I took out my Sebenza 25 and started pounding on the sunroof to no avail. Someone came by with a hammer and managed to crack the windshield but stopped because the car next to us was on fire. I grabbed the Sebenza and pounded like no other, holding it so hard in fact that the jimping cut my own hand. It didn't do much but it helped make a hole, which I then kicked out with my boots. I was in the passenger seat and slid out. My roommate was driving and his airbag didn't deploy but he managed to follow me out of the hole.
By some miracle and possibly some divine intervention we walked away with no injuries. As for the Sebenza its just scratched up a bit at the point near the pivot, opens like a charm and now has some added character. Did it help? I think so, at least a little and in that situation was good enough for me!

Glad you're both safe. Gee wizz..... makes a good case for keeping a Kabar Becker BK-2 inside the car.

One would be led to believe that due to the strict tolerances in the 25 and other CRK products, that there wouldn't be this much flex and/or slop in any CRK, let alone in one of the "harder/heavier use" models...

It wasn't that the blade moved I just managed to compress enough of the skin on the palm of my hand into the area between the handle slabs. The blade sits as it should relatively close to the top when closed, and is why I cut myself.

I want to see the battle scars and the car. Interesting, sounds horrible. Glad you are both alright.

You hit at the edges of door windows, they won't break if you hit the center.
You hit the corner to prevent your hand or tool from going through and cutting yourself or hitting someone and because it has less flex. A glass breaker carbide point will break the window anywhere, other objects don't work as well with the window flexing. The windshield is usually the only window glass that is laminated in a car. I usually cut the windshield glass out with a Glassmaster or Rhino tool. The windshield is some tough glass, without the proper tool it takes a while to go through.
