Sebenza / Acies -- Comparison Pics

I figured I'd start a new thread to show the comparison shots. This is a brand new out of the box Acies compared to a Classic 2000 w/ a CF scale. I could have put the Ti scale back on to the Seb, but does it really matter?

The Acies came sharper out of the box than any Sebenza I own. The blade swings open with a little less effort than my Sebenzas. The lockup is nice and tight, but I prefer the pivot bushing in the Sebenza. The dual thumbstuds on the Acies are nice, but I never open my knife lefty so it doesn't really matter to me. The thumbstuds looks kind of sharpish, but they are actually quite comfortable whether you are flicking or slowly opening. The flat grind and wider blade on the Acies gets my vote over the more narrow and hollow ground blade of the Sebenza. I've always been a fan of deep pocket carry clips, but considering the Sebenza doesn't sit high in the pocket it's a toss up between the clips as far as I'm concerned. The Hinderer lockstop is nice, but at this point I don't really know if it's necessary. They both feel really good in the hand so that is also a toss up. Overall I really like both the Acies and the Sebenza, but obviously haven't had the same carry time with the Acies that I have with the Sebenza. After it's rode in my pocket awhile I'll do a real review.

Enjoy the pics. :D

Nice pictures. I think I still prefer the lines of the Sebenza better, and they're just about the same price right?

The only things bothering me are the black screws and blade finish.

Polish the screws and give the blade a stonewash finish and it would be golden.

It would also be one step closer to a Sebenza, which it is not.

I actually really like the Satin finish on the blade of the Acies. I also like the Stonewash finish on the Sebenza. I'm a fan of Stonewash on users, but Satin finish is pretty much my favorite finish on knives. As far as the black screws go? Meh. I could care less.

Wow no need to get defensive, I was just stating my opinion. To me the black screws stand out like a sore thumb and I've never been a fan of Kershaw's satin finish.

I'm not sure how blade and screw finish constitutes a "step" toward a Sebenza but in this case I don't think that would be a bad thing.

I wasn't getting defensive. I was replying to your statement.

This knife has already been called a Sebenza copy so many times. If the blade was stonewashed just like a Sebenza and the hardware was polished just like a Sebenza then it would be called a copy even more.

I posted these pics to show the differences and some similarities of the two knives. I also posted them because there were requests for side by sides. When looking at the pics with a scrutinizing eye one should see the obvious differences. If you are a big CRK fan the similarities are going to jump out at you.

Thanks for the pics and comparison. I am really diggin the blade on the Acies. I like the satin finish, grind and the shape.

At least based on looks alone, since I don't have either of them, right now I would get the Acies. Specially because of the blade format and geometry. Unless reviews come out showing that the Sebenza clearly outperforms the Acies (though I REALLY doubt that), I think my "expensive folder of 2010" will be the Acies.

For some reason the acies just doesnt sing to me. I am not a fan of the screw color and finish on the blade and handles. It just doesnt seem like a 400 dollar folder to me. I look forward to seeing a video review however, I find those are very helpful

Hi Tony -

Thanks for the side-by-side shots - they really show the contrasts.

best regards -

Thanks for the comparison pics, Tony. Two very nice knives. Really like the CF on the Sebenza. Like the blade shape and handle curve on the Acies. Can't wait to read your follow up after you've used the Acies for a while.

The Acies deep pocket clip is a good feature, although it looks a little untidy from edge on view.
The Sebbie hollow grind and narrower blade are more to my liking.
Short answer: Gimme both!

The more I see of the Acies, the more attractive it becomes. I agree with a high dollar knife, a satin finish is more preferable to me than a stonewash. It just adds an extra bit of class to the overall finish of the knife. And we're comparing ZDP on the Acies to S30V on the Seb, which is an improvement to me. CRK does a great job with S30V, and Kerhsaw also does a great job with ZDP. Add the low rider clip and the Hinderer stop pin, and I really think AG has a winner in this knife.

Nice pics Tony and thanks!

The Sebenzas blade shape, handle shape, pocket clip and pivot bushing all stand out more too me....Sebenza hands down.

A sebenza with a zdp blade would be nice though...

I really like the look of the new Acies. I love the deep-carry clip, but it looks to me that the clip color doesn't exactly match the titanium scales. Is the clip made of titanium, or something else? At this price point, I think the clip should be made of titanium too.
