Sebenza Alternative

My first thought was a HK Axis. Under budget, a little over weight. Made by Benchmade. And unavailable. You'd have to find a used one. It looks like HK knives are made by Hogue now. The pivot lock looks like an Axis in the pictures. Might be worth a look. Also way under budget. (Not sure if that's good or bad.)

Buck 722 spitfire.

Upgraded dealer exclusive models available from SKblades and Copper&Clad
*(well under budget. Buy 4 and mix 'em up)...

According to your limitations I would say PM2.

However, if you can go over the "non liner", I would suggest the GB2.
I have one an IMO it is a very good alternative to my sebenza.

Not sure of the weight but PLEASE take a look at the Klotzli Swiss Border Guard knife. A button lock with hydraulic action. I love it.

EDIT: 4.3 oz.
It annoys the living crap out of me that there is not one single video on youtube of this knife. Can you be a legend and make one please :) showing the lockup and spring housing/mechanism close up and just talking about the action and all that jazz?

Lionsteel Shuffler if you're not apposed to a slip joint. Pick your blade shape. Carbon fiber, titanium & M390. Thin, sophisticated, a gentleman's blade.

For what you're looking to spend, get four of them.

I like them and had one on order but the first run hit just as I was PCS'ing so money was very tight. The reason I don't carry slip joints unless I'm traveling is because they turn in my pocket and it annoys me.

That's as close as they come to what I'm looking for it's right up there with the William Henry.

US made according to the internet. (Are you in Germany? Or where does the Germany come from in your username?)

I'm American, I've spent the last 14 years in Germany, I'm married to a German and my home is in Germany.

That Klotzli knife looks great!

You may be able to find a Rod Olson knife within the parameters you set. Possibly a 3.5" Gemini? All his knives seem to use a button lock, and the one I have (M9 Custom) is outstanding but smaller than what you specified.

Maybe a Spyderco Amalgam would meet your criteria, if you can ignore the flipper tab because it also has the Spydiehole for an alternate opening mechanism. The compression lock is great, but who knows when this one will actually be released.

I'd rather persuade you to broaden your criteria so you could consider something like a Koenig Arius – recently available again and openable without using the flipper tab – the Sander Barbus – optional opening with the blade fuller, and very much on par with Shirogorov for a lower price – or a Holt Specter, if you can find one. Amazing quality and function for the price.

Flippers are an aesthetic thin for me and its generally the only way to open, if I wanted fast I'd carry one of my autos.

I agree by the way. Almost every time an action starts getting gritty on one of my knives it is something on the detent or detent track.

Have you tried an Inkosi? The larger ceramic detent/lockface seems less prone to clogging up.

Or maybe check out some of Hoback’s knives which feature a rolling detent. That might solve your issue outright.

Also the Anthem you can hold back the lockbar and let the blade swing out. It has no true detent.

I've been looking at the KA CF Inkosi but before I spend the money I'm going to compare the detent on the Pirate Jack to the detent on the Sebenza if they're about the same size I might give it a shot.

Seems a little odd that with a budget of $600, he's probably looking for something pretty high end, and the suggestions seem to skew towards "Get a PM2 and have some modder make some scales for it". No matter how you dress it up, a PM2 still kinda comes off as pedestrian to me. And a FrankenPM2, not much more upscale. No offense to anyone, but when I think of a large budget, I'm thinking of all the customs available with handground blades and high end materials from a high-level maker. Of course, many of them violate one or more of his parameters, so eh.

Yea I'm not looking for any high volume production knife I figured when I put the $600 price out there that folks would realize I don't want 4 940's/PM2's both of which are nice knives but not at all what I'm looking for.

CRK Impinda? Does it break the rules? Or find a Ti-Lock.

That will likely become my next travel knife, but daily I still want a lock.

Have you considered carrying your Sebenza in a leather slip while in your pocket?

Same problem as the slipjoint but I do agree the slips are about as classy of a way to carry as you can get.

Sorry for the epic post and the lateness but my little part time gig got all excitable last Friday evening and didn't feel like searching the thread down recently.

GermanyChris GermanyChris , that's cool, good to have you. I was mainly wondering because of the legality issues in terms of carrying here as you are aware. I don't carry anything outside work since all my knives are practically illegal to carry (Locking Onehanded Opening)
And I am kinda meh about slippies. I considered a Pohl Force Slipjoint since I like the size and profile of them, the Hinderers are a tad too small for my liking.

My Americanness let's me get away with more, theres nothing like going through a DUI checkpoint with an auto in your pocket. In the last few months before I left I took to carrying my Nyala which is legal but at home it was always the Sebenza.

Yeah and I think a lot depends on the situation, most times you get into a traffic check there is no reason to have your pockets checked, aside from that you never cross paths with police anyway. I have my knife on me from and to work, technically a gray area too, but I don't think it would be an issue.
The Nyala is nice, I am still contemplating a switch to a 4.5-ish fixed blade, but I feel it comes across more attention grabbing.:D
Do you order here in Europe or deal with customs and order stateside?

Right now I'm in the states and when I'm in Germany I have a US address so it's generally easier to deal stateside, no customs etc.

I keep the Nyala in my pocket but attached to my belt so it doesn't draw any attention at all, the thing is most Germans especially in the rural area I live in don't care on bit about my knife legal or not. My welcome to back to Germany gift though will be a Roland Lannier "Not So Serious" punk which I'll get from a German retailer.

I am in the West, past cologne, it is sort of rural-ish Eifelregion , most people probably wouldn't care, although it's not the Blackforest.

I just found the William Henry EDC line.

The E10 looks up my alley does anyone know who makes them or are they made in house?

I think William Henry will fit the bill. They discountined the E series knives but if you find one buy it.

I owned the E-10 and the smaller counterpart and they were both both far above what you would find in most production knives as altar as f&f. The materials were not amazing but the knives were done perfectly.

Look at the B30 Gentac Saturn. 3.25” ZDP-189 blade, and full ti construction for $450.

I’m a big fan of their button lock and the action on every WH knife I have handled is excellent.

They tend to be very light knives with thin stock for actual cutting which maybe why we don’t hear too much about them

They are a pleasure to deal with and the service they provide is excellent.

KA has some of the EDC series, ACK also has some of the B series. I really, really, don't like all their artistic knives but I didn't realize the bottom end was normal.

This while cool it's the epitome of high end tactical knives impervious to anything and completely bad a$$, but not at all what I'm looking for.

Wow I had no idea KA had the E10. My recommendation was based on the previous version that had a D2 blade for that same amount.

I see they’ve upgraded to M390, it’s a lovely knife and it’s under 2oz.

It’s a lovely knife and something I may have to pick up again.
