'Lo everybody! Been lurking on the sidelines of this thread trying to make up my mind about buying one of those beautiful WH display boxes that some of you lucky ones already have. Meanwhile I was up at our vacation house in Branson MO and was killing time last week when I realized that in the over 20+ years of spending a fair amount of time there every year, that I had never been to the Case XX knife factory outlet store!
While I have owned my share of Case (and Buck) knives over the years and have used and (when younger) severely abused their knives, I had just never felt motivated to go visit their outlet while in Branson.
With my 7 yr grandson in tow and using him as my excuse we went for a visit!
Wow, they have tons, yes literally tons, of knives there. Mostly their cheap little collector series but also some pretty nice knives. Not any in the range of quality like Chris Reeve but also not in that price category either. I did find (and buy) a rather unique looking Buck boot knife in a Tanto style blade and CPM154 (if I remember correctly!) steel. Nice knife for the price and an amazing multi-use sheath with it. It is a knife that once properly sharpened, I will definitely use. Also let the grandson pick out a couple of knives. Was proud of him as he bypassed all of the gimmicky and garish knives for a sweet little camo scaled lock back that was a perfect fit for his 7 year old hands. The shear number of knives that they have out on display is overwhelming even to me as an adult and an avid knife collector, I can only imagine how overwhelmed he was as his eyes bugged out when we moved from counter to counter.
And then on the way out of the store I saw something that looked like it might be a display box. Sure enough it was but it seemed to be the only one and it was pretty grimy from all the sticky handed customers that had fiddled with it. And no price tag either. Made of solid wood, stained a dark walnut color that I didn't like and wouldn't look good in my office anyway. But it had a nice glass top and 2 brass latches that simply clicked closed with no key. When I inquired were there any more similar to this one a kindly very senior lady, stooped with age, ambled over and said "Sure! Look right here!" And on the back shelf of a display case that I had simply just passed by she showed me display cases of every size and orientation possible. I asked for one stained in a lighter color, she peeled back the white paper protecting the boxes and said "They should be right here in this stack." And sure enough, almost exactly what I had been looking for.
And $39.99 later I walked out with this!
Stuck my hand up beside the display box to help you get a feel of the scale.
This lets you see how the individual slots are adjustable.
Extra dividers that you get so you can make the display slots very small or quite large. If you look at the previous pics you will note that I was able to vary the size of the display slots even within the box to enable me to display my large CRK's and then in another row a small Mnandi.
Hope this helps! I like it!
