Sebenza display (now with report and review)

I wouldn't call it measaly. I would call it a beautiful collection!

Thanks! I need 4 more just like it to hold my CRK's. But that is too much surface space. I am looking for something that matches the finish with drawers to store the knives and then rotate them up to the glass display.

Thanks for the review SG. I've got this on my short list after your review! Can you tell us if a small seb will fit in the box with the blade opened up?

I finally had a chance to investigate this.

A small Sebenza 21 will fit -- just barely -- while fully open in the bottom tray. But of course, because of the top tray, you won't be able to see the open knife through the glass.

Unfortunately, it won't fit in the top tray when it's fully open. It's too long.

But it will fit when partially opened and leaned against a compartment divider.

Finally, this picture shows that there is enough clearance for the top to close.

I hope this is helpful. I continue to think that this is a great knife display box.

Will probably order this case too from Plaza Cutlery.. Been searching for awhile but just couldn't find any other online..

They are however out of stocks...

Thanks for the awesome photos and review of this box SG.. I was hesitant to buy this case last year...

It does look like a really nice display case.. I'm wondering if the knives I own would suit such a handsome box.

Plaza shows out of stock at the moment. I didn't know their price was a bit better than others price. Hopefully they come back in stock at the same price.

Plaza Cutlery did have the best price I could find, but I would have bought it and been happy with it at the regular price found elsewhere. I've really enjoyed not having each knife stowed away in its own CRK box.

For anyone interested in a larger and much more interesting Sebenza storage box, I came across this one. It's a one-off, but I believe the guy is willing to build more.

The lid is glass, divided into two halves:

The halves separate in the middle, and each half lifts up and then slides down into the side wall of the case. It's hard to describe but very cool in action. In the picture below, the halves are stowed away.

Inside sits a tray with 10 compartments. They look big, probably big enough to hold more than one knife.

Once the tray is lifted out, there's an open storage area. When a special pin is used, a hidden compartment emerges from the bottom. This picture shows the pin in use and the compartment partially open.

Anyone interested in seeing more pictures or, better yet, the great videos, can visit https://www.instagram.com/mike_snodgrass_/ and scroll down a short way.

Very cool display box! And you even have a "James Bond/Lone Wolf" secret compartment for your ROF's!
2 questions
How big?
And
How much?

Good questions. I'm not sure. I think the videos give a better sense of the size than the pictures give. I'm sure the guy who made it can answer all questions. You can contact him through a message on Instagram, or you can find his email address at the top of his Instagram page.

We're all trying to picture this. I'm thinking of a gigantic coffee table with a glass lid.

Best idea I have heard. I wonder if anyone making furniture has ever thought of this. I bet they would sell a truckload at the Blade show.

I am loving the coffee table idea! Why don't we all go in together and commision a furniture maker to make them for us?
Once a prototype is finished each person could chose the wood and the color of the stain.
It might even be possible to have it made in 2 different sizes.

For collectors of smaller knives, such as small Sebenzas and Mnandis (not to mention Umfaans), another option might be a pen case like this one:

This one has 151 spaces. Each one is one inch across, so large Sebenzas won't fit.

Smaller ones are also available. Here is the website where I came across this one:
