sebenza or Strider

I don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers, as I do business with some of you men ;) . But I will have to say. Being a SnG owner myself, and whilst I have never owned, only seen/played with Sebenza's. Well, wait for it, the Sebenza's looks more like a pretty show-piece IMO. Too pretty for me so I'll take the SnG tank.

Think to yourself, what do you need. This should show you just how well put together the SnG's are.

Also checkout these pic's. Notice just how well the SnG angles/lines work in the various hand positions.

I cannot stress enough just how important jimping on the blades spine can be. Strider has something very special here. Wet or bloodied hands no problem. It can make a huge difference!

To me the Sebenza looks/feels like a toy. The SnG is a hard use tool, that is so thought out. As one can see from the lines, jimping & materials used etc.
I know many here will hate what I'm about to say. But it's in the good of this buyer & this decision. So save it!

Just remember how the two Chris Reeves knives held up under the Noss test. Think long & hard brother, & I'm sure you will work out that the CR heat-treating needs some attention.

I hope this helps. Just my opinion lads :D

To me , the Strider has much better ergo's for a knife to use , now if you don't actually use your knife much , you won't notice the difference more than likely.

I had Sebenza's , I now have and use Striders.

best advice , compare them side by side in your hand , then choose.

Either is heads and shoulders above a $100 knife.

Do you guys have experience with the Zero Tolerance 300 series? It's like a mish mash of Ken Onion and Mick Strider in one heavy duty knife for about $200. The only complaint I have is that it weighs 8oz but I've heard that for the money it's pretty close to a Strider.

I don't see that TKC states that she only has senbenzas and no Striders, I can see how one might think that. To me it's not clear. Knowing Suz I think she's got quite a collection and she may well still have a strider or two.;)

never owned one, but have handled many.

the 300's are indeed well built and heavy duty. i dont care for the blade shape or the wide profile.

on the other zt's i like the scale width, but would prefer a drop point or regular tanto instead of the recurve.

nice stuff, just not for me.

Well my advise to you is if you have the chance drive to a B&M and try to handle as many different knives as possible. Then consider your day to day useage and what you expect out of a knife and then make your decision.

Knife performance is a very subjective thing. I own knives from every maker in this thread (sharp and pointy things are addictive) and they all make servicable cutting instuments. I carry all of my knives(no not at once, I have not found pants with enough pockets ...yet) from my slippies to my folding prybars and yet my favorite edc is my spyderco military as it works best for me.

So that being said buy what you like and you will use and carry because the best knife is the one you have on you when you need it.

Sebenza for me. I had a few striders back in the day, fixed and folders, but got rid of them for a few reasons.

The ZT 300 is as good as the stiders IMO. I wasnt fond of the recurve blade but a reprofiling sorted that out :)

strider SnG's and sebs are both very good knives, ya cant really go wrong with either one.

i have both and FWIW i rarely carry either one anymore lol, i just found other stuff i liked better.

I dont understand why people dont think that a sebenza cant be used as a "hard used knife." They are very well made and can handle a lot of hard use.

+1
If you need a "hard use" knife for something the Sebenza can't handle you're probably not looking for a knife.

I don't doubt for a second that my Seb is likely as capable, but I think Striders have a somewhat better warranty when it comes to knives being used in ways that might be considered "abuse". That's how I read the warranties, anyways.

Sebenza or Strider? Well... You had many good replies.
Now, get the folder that You like Best! ;)

I can't decide. I have no idea what these are like as i have never held one of these in person.

I am currently looking at a small sebbie or the Strider spearpoint SNG.

They are comparably priced. So tell me which one should I get and why?

I'd go for the small Sebenza. With a Sebbie, you will NEVER have to adjust the pivot tension. Not cheap but you get a quality product with a manufacturer that really stands behind it.

Short of loss or theft, I have no plans to ever replace my EDC small Sebenza.

I'm with you iamsmiling, I love not having to worry about the pivot tension. I can't see replacing it with another knife as my main edc, unless an xm-18 some how showed up at my house

Hey i was just asking a question guys, no need to be rude.

FYI the search function is disabled on this site unless you pay a $10. fee.

A BFC subscription is a much better value than either. It is money you will never regret spending.

As for the OPs question..... Buy one, if you don't like it, sell the first one and buy the other. If you don't like either, sell the second one and buy a ZT0300 and a Bradley Alias and call it a day.:D

Preference plays a bigger role than you may think. Give my guitar to a strat player and theyll complain its too heavy and the neck is too thick but their guitar feels like a toy to me.

give a merc driver the keys to a bmw and he will complain the ride is too hard and the bmw driver will complain that a mercedes is just too damn slow.

and on and on and on.

I don't think people are saying that the Sebenza is fragile. I think people are saying that the Striders are generally tougher. Both knives should do just fine under normal use for what the folders are designed for. But if you're talking about risking the warranty, Striders seem to be the way to go.

I didnt want to imply that a Seb was fragile , because it is anything but fragile. My point was I have seen more Strider's used hard than Sebenza's.

Either would outlast its owner.
