sebenza or Strider

The SnG is marketed as a hard use duty knife. It has obvious physical features that enhance gripping the knife in various positions, and will do so with gloves on, in inclement or hazardous conditions. The G10 scale has more grip than a bead blasted Ti scale, the blade shape is a drop point utility, and it's flat ground for best overall cutting in a wide variety of material. The choil allows a close hold to the point for finely controlled cutting.

The Sebenza is marketed as a finely made, precision tool to a technically aware higher end market. It's hollow ground, IIRC, and the blade cross section is less. It has a smoother profile, and no choil. CRK offers lots of stock and custom CNC designs as decor for the grip. It ships in a leather pocket slip case with a "birth certificate."

Price, S30V blade and Ti framelock are about all that are similar. They are two different knives, made for different buyers, and a great education in knife designs that are actually polar opposites.

You may want to look into a lot more of what they are about, handle each, and consider your real question: What do I think of myself if I choose this one?

Have 'em both. Like my kids I love them both but in different ways.
My Seb is my workaday knife, at home in dress pants and khakis, able to handle the mundane chores of paper, boxes, lunches, is customer friendly.
My SnG is the weekender knife, rides in my jeans, cuts drywall and BBQ, and goes in the bush. :D

338, thanks for the pics they are worth a thousand words. I think both companies make good knives. The one thing that makes me leary is Strider does not return my emails and I can just pick up the phone and call Reeve.

My Sebenza has been used alot, personally I don't know who is prying open doors with either but I am pretty sure either would fail. My AR was no doubt beefier than my Sebenza but it was too large for ME. I think I might give the SNG a go, it might be the hot ticket. I hate the fact there is not one perfect knife. I am a user not a collector. MY Strider was much sharper and a better cutter than MY Sebenza by the way. The whole sharpend prybar thing only applies to the fixed blades IMHO.

Oh, I had a Hinderer XM and it was neat, but in the end it and the AR hit the block.

Ok, since this has been debated for about 4 years, and the knife world seems to be moving away from the "tacticals", let say that this isn't trolling. I've owned both, and can honestly say I would buy neither again. Too overpriced for what they are. Now, back in the day they were the standards, but the production world has caught up with them, and many a 100.00 knife is just as tough, and nice. IMHO of course.

While Im a big proponent of "You get what you pay for" I will admit that I have other less expensive knives that are every bit the equal of the more expensive trend knives I have or have had.

They are both awesome. Better ergos on the SnG in my opinion. I like the pivot/bushing better on the Sebenza.

get whichever one you like the style of better.

I hate the fact there is not one perfect knife.

I feel the complete opposite. I love the fact that every knife has it's own strengths and weaknesses. Each knife teaches you something about knives.
If there were one perfect knife, I would only own one. This way I always have an excuse to say, "but honey, I don't have a knife that I can use to ...."

Love the imperfect.

Edit: to me the Sebenza is a work of art that works. Use it and it will gain those little scars that begin to write a visual history of a tool well loved. I hate 'mint' knives--they haven't lived.

tough choice, both are sweet folders. Ive owned a couple of each...
The sng has the choil at the bottom of the blade which is great, and nice grippy g-10.
The sebenza has a "magic" too, perfect fit and finish, TOUGH as nails, can be taken apart and cleaned, smooooth action.
I'd go with the seb.

Both are beautiful in there own way. I compare my sebenza to my sig 239SAS. Both have wood on the grips, both are smooth operators, slick and easy on the eyes.

Now with my Strider SNG, this baby reminds me of my Glock. No wood, no frills, just use it and if the SHTF abuse it! Right now my strider is my carry piece.

Lifes short.... Treat yourself to both, a good watch and a nice pen!

Just buy em both, you won't regret it.

End of story, (I hope but I know it will continue forever)

i dont own either of these knives but ive handled both and i must say the sebenza feels nicer to me also the sebenza is waaaaaaaaay more sheeple friendly, also the design on the handles are quite intriguing to me. the strider seems more like a "heavy user" knife and definately has that militaristic feel to it. and seems like it would be more applicable in a Self defense situation. but for me id definately go for a sebenza, but if you need to scratch the strider itch just get a buck strider at the reasonable price range of $60-$80
