I was in a similar situation a couple months ago. I had promised myself a Sebenza when I graduated college after a decade and a half hiatus.

After reading up on what I really needed, an Inkosi fit my needs better. I handled a large version at Spark's shop, and that was it. Instant love. There has only been a handful of times where I have carried it on my person. I truly feel like I can't go back to anything less for a carry knife. I'm sure I will by more folders, and they may not all be CRK brand, but once you feel the attention if detail that went into a CRK, it kinda makes everything else under just...well, OK.

You mileage may vary, but I'm stoked with my purchase.

Honest question re resale prices of CRK. What are the benefits of buying a second-hand Sebenza that has light snail trails for only $40 cheaper than brand new from dealer (still in production obviously)?

Personally, I'd rather spend the $40 and buy new from a CRK dealer and have the manufacturers warrantee.

If you choose to buy second hand (which many do) there have been very few disappointments. You can still send the knife to CRK for "spa treatment" even if you are not the original owner...so your knife WILL BE serviced.

How about one of Peter Rassenti's collaborations with Spyderco?

Following on from Henry Beige's post, I've seen the opinion that Hinderers are the Sebenza's more "blue collar" cousin: the alternative for people who feel like CRKs are a little too nice to get dirty.

If you know where to purchase a Spyderco Rassenti Nirvana...please PM me

None, I’d just buy new in that case. I only buy a used CRK when I can save $100 or more and the seller has stellar feedback.

I currently am funded to buy a grail for myself. Parted with a few I knew I could buy back or just didn't need or use right now. My dilemma is what do I fund? I am mostly a Spyderco guy but I am a little Spydied out at the moment and considering a Sebenza or other higher end knife. I have told myself if I fund a $300+ dollar knife it needs to be a full time work and edc knife. It won't get beat to death at work but I work in a machine shop so it will get snail trails, scratches, etc.

So my question, knowing the highest end knife I own are production Spydercos is do I buy a Sebenza, or are there other similar options I should be considering? If you vote other I would love to see suggestions and reasons posted here. Thanks for the help BF!

My favorite CRK is the umnumzaan. That’s what I recommend. Hinderers are nice but not built quite as well and once they added a lock bar insert and the gimmicky tri way nonsense I completely swore them off. The Zaan is a great cutter, has good ergos, simple to maintain, and carries very well in the pocket.

Hah! I do like his designs, but I don't want a safe queen, and I would be too scared to carry it.

I've set myself a price point considerably lower than anything we're talking about in this thread, and I'm one of of those obnoxious folks who refuses to buy a Reeve, simply because "everybody" agrees that it's "the knife".

I don't know if that makes me a hipster, or just a curmudgeon. Either way, I'm quite happy to suggest alternatives, and muddy the water!

there are many people here who do not like CRK. Not sure where you get the impression that “everybody” likes them.

I am in a similar situation as the OP. I was kind of set on a BHQ large Sebenza 21 insingo with CF inlay. Now your post makes me think twice. Won't the two finger grooves on the handle of inkosi lead to more restrictions on the hand grip (otherwise, hot spots?)? Please enlighten. Thanks.

That's why I sold mine initially. Because I felt I didn't have the freedom of the 21. It's not bad and I'd didn't really find hot spots.

Just couldn't slide all four finger up all the way for more controlled grip iirc.

It's so close

I have a 31 micarta on order but I'm still eyeballing a micarta Inkosi in the mean time.

I didn't care for the plain Jane inkosi but I think the inlays might balance it out .

In about a year ,sebenza will start to go up . Mine came as a birthday reward. I just wanted a plain jane standard.
In the two hundred range, trm and the skaha are worth a look . Knives are a great hobby.
I think Nick S did a video on diminishing returns . It is well worth watching .

Um. Because I'm wrong on the Internet an awful lot, I'm going to over-explain.

I don't have strong feelings either way about Reeve's knives. I understand what the company is trying to do, and respect them for it.

I put quotations around "everybody", because I don't have statistics, just the impression that there is a consensus about his offerings (as much as consensus can be achieved on Bladeforums).

So, there you go.

For $40 I wouldn't, but there are much better deals out there for LNIB/BNIB much less carried with almost no use. The buyer that buys new takes the greatest hit, after that the prices are pretty steady. Not that there is anything wrong with buying new, but I would want that to be a keeper.

A while back I was looking into flipper alternatives to CRK. I decided on a Keonig Arius (priced just a bit higher than a PJ large Sebenza) and I can recommend it wholeheartedly. Build quality, action, etc are terrific. Just an alternative if you're looking for a top quality flipper. But you have to like the blade shape. I'd prefer a RASK but try to find one,......

I would agree, in general more people like them than not.

I too work in a machine shop & the tolerances of a CRK fit the bill. I picked up an Inkosi, twice. It’s a reliable tool. Customer service is great & the new 31 is on my list.

If you feel the need to start a poll to determine if you want a CRK, then you really don’t want one. No one can convince you to buy one regardless of everyone’s personal experience/opinion.
Spending that much money on a knife should be your choice based on research to see which knife will fit the bill.
Spartan Blades, Hinderer, Koenig(probably not spelled right)Giant Mouse are all good knives.

Seems mildly aggressive in response. I started a poll as a way to quantify the response, not to base my final buying decision on.

Either way I am enjoying the conversation in this thread. Lots of good reading while continuing my research.

I love the Nirvana. One of my grail knives I will likely never own. Like the Slysz Bowie.

Not losing a dime purchasing 2nd hand then reselling again if you don't care for it.

I own Sebenzas (regular and 21), an Umnumzaan and a small Inkosi. Personally, I like the Inkosi design the most, and plan to someday get a large Inkosi. I prefer basic, plain-jane CRKs. But if you ever plan to pull the trigger on a CRK, YMMV.
