sebenza purchase

That's true, and fair enough.

Really though, I'm 100% confident that my 40 dollar M16 or 70 dollar D2 minigrip can handle anything I throw at it. And of course, the para.

Pretty much, performance levels fast with price as well. Joe was one of the first guys to discuss this in a quantitative way. I like the Paramilitary as a general use working folder but it would be hard to argue it has a superior performace/cost ratio than a FRN Endura.

At some point you are paying for minor details which can be difficult to achieve and the further you go the less difference it makes but often the more costly it gets. If you have a chance get a Sebenza, take it apart and notice the action. It is actually solid without the screws which says something about the tolerances.

Fortunately I think the issue with the Bradley has been temporarily fixed. It sounds like it needed a cleaning, lube and pivot adjustment.

Temporarily is the key word. The pivot can't be fully tightened down or the knife won't open, but now the screw keeps working loose. Loketite should solve the problem, but that leads us back to the whole field servicability issue with Benchmade/Bradley knives.

I'm not sure what you mean though, Cliff. Elaborate please?

The Sebenza has not changed significantly, others have. There were not always Benchmades with M2 blades and Axis locks, and Spyderco compression locking folders with CPM steels. Spyderco is now talking about tool steel folders. The competion has changed massively, but compare a Sebenza to a FRN Endura in AUS-8A and it is a lot different than to a Ritter Grip. Reeve basically invented the integral lock, so at one time obviously this was also a major advantage.

I'd like to hear what Paul gets too.

I think if you want the best hollow ground knife you can afford get the Seb. I think you'll like it. If not just sell it.

I think that the sebenza is a great knife, probably one of the best around. But I have trouble paying $400 for a knife especially when there are other ones that use the same material for 1/2 the cost. Such as the BM Skirmish/mini, the Combat Elite RRF, the camillus Dominator, the Bradley alias knives. These may not to be as good as sebenzas but I think they are much better buys. I don't think that fit and finish is worth $200 extra dollars. I have never heard of any instances were any of the above mention knives had blade play. And if they did I am sure it was quickly repaired. I recently held a Mini Skirmish and it was perfect. No blade play, excellent fit and finish, it's ergos were perfect (for me) and it was worth the $160 dollars (I think) that they were selling it for. I think that the sebenza is overpriced, that is all I have against it.
But there is enough of a following out there so CR can keep the prices where they want them. Sorry for the long post but those are my thoughts on the mighty Seb.

When you spend $400 for a folder, you are not just buying a knife, you are in fact buying a piece of jewelry, just like a expensive watch. If all you want is a functioning knife, buy something cheaper.
