Sebenza style knives, can anyone recommend one or two.

Hold out. Don't spend a dime. Save up then get a Sebenza. There's NO substitute. Drop in then on BF and thank me! lol.

I recommend you get a CRKT S-2. They have a titanium frame and an ATS-34 blade. They're very comfortable to carry and I've grown to really love mine. There are two sizes available, small and large. I have the large. Prices: $60-$80.

Another huge vote for this knife.

This is the poor mans Sebenza.

I own a small model and the large model , both come in partially serrated and plain.
This model was made before CRKT started using cheap 420j2 on some of their knives.
They are also getting harder to find.

I love titanium framelocks. I have a small Sebenza. I also have 2 small and 1 large CRKT S-2. I may pick up one of the medium sized ones in the near future. I also have a titanium CRKT Mirage which is a nice little framelock. I plan on picking up a Bradley Alias soon. In my opinion, the Bradley is the only one that can even be compared to a Sebenza.

There is no "other" knife like a Sebbie...than a a Sebbie ;) Save your change in a jar (tape a picture of a Sebbie on it). I bet in less than 6 months you will have enough to snag a used one off the exchange here.

Another vote for the Benchmade 635 Mini Skirmish.

I carried a 635 for a few months its a great knife. Fit was near perfect on the two I had. One thing I do like so much about the 635, is how they press the female pivot to the scale.....This allows you to use loctite on the pivot. I wish CRK would also do this. As they(Sebbies) are now if you use loctite on the pivot, and try to unscrew it, the pivot will just spin because you can't grip the back side. :grumpy: (it costs around $20+all the shipping for them to drill it out, and replace the pivot.) Yes I once did it........

Some like recurves some don't (I love em'). A lightly used 635 should run you around $100 here, give or take a few coins.

Would be a great sub for a Sebbie........well kind of :D

The type of screw assembly Sebenza's use don't require any loctite as they will not loosen, and the pivot screw can be tightened down completely without fear of hindering the blade action due to the blade bushing that Sebenza's have.

There are little things about the Sebenza that put it ahead of the others mentioned. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the BM's, Bradley's(built by BM), and the others. They have great steels, and most have titanium handles, but they are not a Sebenza.

Sebenza's cost more and if you are not ready to invest that kind of money, then don't. But if you ever do, you have nothing to be ashamed of for spending that amount of money as it is your money and your choice afterall. People buy Sebenza's everyday and CRK has NO trouble selling everyone they make. If that many people are willing to put that kind of money out for the Sebenza over other's, then it must be worth the cost! In the end, the topic of the Sebenza vs. all other knives will NEVER come to a 100% conclusion as there will always be people coming down on both sides of the debate. Buy what you like and be proud of what you get!

Most importantly, remember that every response is the opinion of the poster and just as we all have opinions, we all have buttholes.....it's just that some stink worse than others!;):D Please take this in the good natured manner in which I post it.

I think you would save money in the long run by buying a Sebenza. You'll get one anyway.

I've had a small classic Seb, a B/M mini-Skirmish, & currently a Bradley Alias II. While I think the Seb is in a class by itself, I feel that the Alias is a VERY close second to it.

My complaint of the B/M Skirmish's is tip-down carry & the small thumb-hole, which made it difficult for me to open quickly & smoothly. However, my hands are large, so it may not be an issue for you.

There a quite a few very nice ti frame-locks out there, but I think you'll find the Braley Alias's to be the closest to the Sebs.

Good luck with your choice.

All great ideas, thanks guys.

I will be out later today and will check out the Monochrome, and the S2 has me intrigued for sure.

My budget is around $70-100, looking for a light carry GP knife.

I already have a Spyderco Rescue (old model), carried it for years. I want a plain edge just because when I was using the Rescue it would tend to load up when I was cutting. I wonder if it could be ground to a plain edge? Just thinking out loud here.

The Sebenza just caught my eye with its simple lines, style of blade and appearent thinness.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.....I swear, I have the same problem when I go on a beer run. I cannot decide on Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Sam Adams Black Lager, or some new stout!

I am like a woman sometimes, cannot make a decision!!
:D

Another good recommendation for the Bradley Alias I here. Just bought one, and I'm glad I did!! Like it so much, I plan to buy a second to last the rest of my life. Just could'nt justify the cost of a Sebenza for myself, so I went looking for the alternative, and the Alias is it!!

Thank you for making the Sebenzanistas' point. You spent more for two Bradleys "to last the rest of your life" than you would have for one Sebenza "to last the rest of your life".

FWIW, I've just had to sell off nearly all my knives. The first to sell, and the only ones to generate more than I paid for them were the Sebenzas. They will also be the first to be replaced when I get my finances back under control.

Still prefer the Bradley.............not a person that has to have "the best". I'm happy with the "Oldsmobile, as opposed to the "Cadillac". I'd rather have a quality knife that I'm not afraid to use, & use hard, than a "safe queen" I'm afraid I'm going to loose, or beat up. Just my opinion, to each his own. I plan to buy two because I liked them so much, period!!

p.s.- Two of the Bradley Alias I's were still cheaper than one Sebenza of comparable size. :)
Also, just for clarity.........I'm not trying to rile anyone here. Just stating my own opinions. If I had the income to afford a "Sebenza", and the "need" for one, it would be the first knife I'd buy. Don't have the "need", or the $$$.

The Cherusker Schanz G1 might be something for you, if you don't mind that it's made in China. It has a framelock, a steel that equals 440B and doesn't cost too much.
