Sebenza vs:??????

Just causeu get some pure columbian cocaine doesn't mean ur not gonna want more cocaine the next day

Having handled the Sebenza a few times after reading the reviews, I was dismayed each time to find that the clouds didn't part, angels didn't descend from the sky, and hunger in impoverished nations around the world still existed.

That said, it's a good, well built knife. I just wasn't convinced that it would seriously outperform some of my current less expensive(relative to the sebenza) production knives.

I believe I bought it from KnifeArt.

It's a nice knife. I don't end up using it all that often though. First reason probably has to do with the fact that it's not exactly easy to open and close. I know I've complained about my XM-18 being almost too loose with literally no detent, but looking back on it, I find that preferable to a framelock that makes your thumb sore just by disengaging it. There is a touch more blade play than the Sebenza, but no more than my XM-18.

I guess the tradeoff is the one-piece titanium construction in lieu of a bushing pivot.

Still, the finish of the Sebenza's titanium hardware is unusually "rough". I find smoother bead blasts on my Speedform and ZT 0551, both of which don't seem to scuff as easily as my Sebbie did. The apparent cause of which was a light brush against the pocket clip of my Spyderco Para2 S90V and Carbon Fiber(yes, I carry two knives at work in the same pocket).

Thats my problem too. I usually have 2 knives 1 being the Umnumzaan and one being either a small traditional or even something the size of a UDT or a BM 3150 and somehow the aluminum handle of the 3150 shows less wear than the titanium handle of the umnum.(not sure what the UDT is, I'm assuming aluminum as well but tis pretty well anodized.)

Guys I have to ask, I love pocket knives,I have numerous Spyderco's and I love them, I have several Kershaws and l love them, I have Esses and they are great. and I have dozens of Case knives. I even had a Benchmade Gold class 750-101 which I was less than pleased with and returned it. My question is if I buy a Sebenza will this stop my relentless purchasing of production knives. If I keep the Sebenza as a EDC with a exquisite lanyard, will this put a end to it all. Someone please answer me. Thx oh tea I have a Microtech Lund too.

No. You've got the bug. Spending more money won't kill it. You either need willpower or simply to admit you have an addiction and figure out how to maintain it.

Or you know, figure out exactly what it is you're after.

Me? I'd want something with a titanium framelock, stonewashed, and carbon fibers on the opposite side. Blade should be roughly the same shape, grind(hollow), and dimensions as a Sebenza, with the same weird finish that looks stonewashed and polished at the same time. But from that point on, I would want M390 blade steel heat treated to Rc 62 minimum.

The Sebenza is almost perfect IMO, I just need performance to be the best of the best as well. "Best" being a relative term, but I like good edge retention over toughness with a combination of good corrosion resistance because my knife is not a prybar.

I want a knife that gives me super powers to fight the bad guys. I want to press a button and have lasers burn holes in steel, I want it to shoot grappling hooks to roof tops, oh wait I have been watching Batman with my grandkids. Thanks for the feedback, OK here goes, Members of the blade forums, my name is Mike and I am a knife-a-holic. who's making the coffee.

The Sebenza is a fine knife, but a knifeknut will just keep on collecting. My own user Sebenza rarely leaves its box, I have found that I prefer others to it, ymmv of course.

No, you'll still buy knives. If you acquire a Sebenza, one of two things will happen. Either you will be underwhelmed and look for something else, or you'll love it and want to obtain other variations.

Sebenza was a gateway for me into customs (basically it got me comfortable with spending more $ on a knife than I previously had done and also with carrying more pricey knives). Many many many dozens of custom knives followed. Some have been an improvement over the Sebbie and some have not.

Sebbie also falls in a single category of knife. I can't imagine not owning FBs, and front pocket slipjoints, and low cost knives to leave in the car, and multi-tools, etc, etc.

No, the Sebbie won't be the end of it.

I've been carrying a small Sebenza everyday for about 10 years now. It's a very nice pocket knife...nothing more, nothing less. Never felt the need to buy another Sebenza since this one should last the rest of my life and will probably last the rest of my kids/grandkids lives as well.

But I also have a BM MiniGrip that I carry when I'm out in the shop or around the ranch. I don't feel as bad when it gets greasy/muddy or dropped in manure. :)

The only thing that will cure the bug for buying knives is the bug to make knives from scratch. You thought you had it bad buying them wait until the "knife makin bug" bites you! Its ten times as bad!

I can't speak for your addictions, but I purchased a small sebenza about 6 months ago or so. I've since sold off almost my entire collection. It's the only knife I use.

It really is the perfect folder. It's so perfect, I've thought about going back to a griptilian, just because I don't need the awesome-ness of the Sebenza. But it definitely stopped my knife buying instantly. It's the king. Nothing is better IMO. It's the most lightweight, smallest package you can get, with the most amount of purchase on blade length for the form factor. Super high quality, it is the king. I thought it was overpriced and silly. Now I'm a believer. Stop wasting money on stuff you aren't going to use and are going to leave sit in a drawer. Just grab the sebenza and use it. No more knives.

That's cool and I can almost understand it. So you haven't started the process yet of thinking "the Sebenza is so amazing, but what if there was something out there and maybe the thumbstuds were a little better, and the ergos a little better, and if it were just a little smoother...."?

Again, custom-made is the end all be all.
