Sebenza washers, non OEM

This should be good, lol. :p

My money is on the answer being "we hand fit every washer, so there is no one-size-fits-all".

Ok here we go:

"Unfortunately, I am not allowed to share measurements as that is proprietary information. Please know that using aftermarket parts does void the warranty of the knife. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. "

Thanx for the help CRK

If you have some calipers you can measure them yourself.

Super super lame of crk to call the dimensions of a washer proprietary. Like it's some top secret information that they can't risk their competitors getting 🤦‍♂️

As if no one can use a caliper/mic

There are no words.

You’ll probably never need spares anyway if you’re careful when you do take the knife fully apart. If you use the knife so much that it develops a little play from the washers thinning out, you can always take a little off of the bushing in the same manner.

If you need spares that bad, send the knife in and have them fit a few sets which they will do or keep pioneering but CRK is helping, just not how you want.

Dudes in Scandinavia, I don't think telling him absolutely nothing and not sending washers he's willing to pay for is helping lol

Easy enough to make a set, though. Not that I think he'd wear out the washers in it, but maybe he's worried about losing em. Either way, not very helpful.

They won’t do that for anyone though so it’s not like he’s being shafted. If I wanted spares I wouldn’t be getting any different treatment.

I did however send a 21 with solid washers for a spa service and they fit a pair of the updated washers for me. Needed a set just in case ya know, so I can see his side in this also lol. I didnt waste money on the insurance, we all know USPS wouldn’t cover it anyway so I took a big chance.

As said in one of the 1st posts it was to have a spare pair.

Who knowns for what reason..

Benchmade is similar with omega springs but they send them to people in other countries because the risk of losing the knife or having it confiscated is pretty high. I think companies ought to do that for our brethren in far off places. Crk isn't the only one that does this so I'm not just getting on them, but come on, at least tell the dude 1/4 ID 5/8 OD .02 thou thick...

Meh not the end of the world but in the words of an unwise man "come on man!" Lol

Frankly it also doesn't make sense. On one hand they cant send them out because the thickness varies enough that they have to hand fit them BUT they also can't tell you dimensions because its proprietary??? If you are hand fitting them the dimensions being proprietary shouldn't matter, no?

Agreed.

This was the responce on the Benchmade part from CRK:

"I completely understand your frustration. A lot of our foreign customers prefer the Inkosi and Umnumzaan models because the tolerances are not as tight and the washers do not require hand fitment. As you mentioned with the Benchmade parts that don't require hand fitment, most of our parts can be shipped out without any issues. The Sebenenza and Mnandi are the only knives that we offer that require hand fitment of the washers."

I'd much rather "handfit" some close to OEM CRK washers than have to change Benchmade washers, BM axis lock knives take downs is a biiiig PIA...

Just measure what you got and make your own, not a big deal. Omega springs aren't difficult to replace either, I make my own springs too.

OT: But IMO taking dowm BM axix lock knives are a PITA. I've made my own springs no prob.

Well it’s really not the tolerances, it’s because the Sebenza uses a pivot bushing whereas the Inkosi model doesn’t and you adjust the pivot tension for the action you want, not adjusting the fit of the washers like the Sebenza.

And point beeing?

It’s not the tolerances of the knife itself, it’s the pivot design that‘s different. Just clarifying so you’re not confused is all. I hope you get the washers you “need”.

Ok, so I live in scandinavia and had an idea of getting some spare washers for a small 21.

I tried to get CRK to send them to me and got a instant "No, sorry" with some additioanl story on how hard it is to hand fit these. I then asked if she could ask her superiors if their rules actually was that hard on us non US customers; shipping insured would be 50-100$ and the wait probably 2 months pluss and risking to loose the knife as well(sebenza 21, NOT easily replaced...).

Then got this:

" I spoke in detail with Tim Reeve about your specific situation to see if we could accommodate your request. He explained that as much as we would love to make an exception because we do realize the time and expense of sending your knife to us, we can't send out Sebenza washers without them being fit to the Sebenza. If they aren't fit properly, it can cause other issues to your knife, and this would ultimately result in your knife requiring service anyways."

Soooo while also telling me I'm too incompetent to take of a few micro mms of a washer they also between the lines politely told me "screw u, we dont care for non US customers, good luck and DONT F UP YOUR WASHERS!!"

This has led me to try to hunt down some non OEM pb washers for a small 21.

So have anybody done this or heard of someone who did it? Or have a link to a thread where this has been resolved?

I'm posting this in both GKD and the CRK forum to try to get as much usefull help as possible.

Thanks

Tim Reeve is a wiener and I stand by that.

I was in the process of having a custom Damacore blade made for a small Sebenza 21, and I was told (by the makers) that Tim went out of his way to specifically tell makers not to do the job. My Small 21 will be the only CRK I own.

It’s my knife Tim. I’ll do what I want with it.

Ya at this point I would just get myself a good set of digital calipers or micrometer, measure what you've got, and then do your best to get something close at a hardwear store. You will still end up spending less money and less time even if you F up the first few washers in the process as opposed to sending the knife insured across the Atlantic and back.
