Can anyone tell me is a Sebenza really worth the money? Im thinking fo getting a large regular one. Wondering if it will be too big for carry, awkward? worth it?

Worth it.

And this from a man who's owned only one and sold it.

Just not a fan of metal handles, but the knife was put together as well as any I've seen. Excellent fit, finish, and function.

As for size, the large is a little big for pocket carry to me. A sheath might serve you better if you get the large. YMMV.

I have tried alot of knives, and I always come back to the sebenza. Light, sharp, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, opens smooth, and locks tight. You won't be sorry!:)

I swear there is a conspiracy to have Sebenza related threads and thus work me into an even bigger "want one" frenzy... must not order yet....
:)

I have owned three but sold them off. They are very well made but I found that I prefered knives that cost a lot less..so why keep them?

We need a subforum where all "Are Sebenzas really worth it?" threads can be collected.

Sebenzas are precision cutting implements, made of excellent materials to the closest tolerances you will find in a semi-custom, production knife.

At each level of quality, you will find price rising faster than function. If high quality and pride of ownership are worth the extra expense, then yes, the Sebenza is worth it. Otherwise, there are lots of great knives out there for less.

Size and weight may be significant, so you really should try to handle a large and a small Sebenza before you decide which is best for you. The small is noticeably lighter and more compact, although the blade is only slightly shorter. As long as the handle is not too short, this makes it the best choice for office carry.

As to quality and function, both are good. I'm just not a fan of the design. Metal handles, frame lock and hollow grind are not designs I like in knives. So for me the answer is that the Sebenza isn't worth it.

It must be Monday, a new work week and a new are Sebs worth it question. I believe it has to do with the inability to find the Search button on the screen or something, might be contagious. Next thing you know he will be kicking at Mick's reputation in another thread. Steven

rev_jch posts a lot in Traditional. He is not yanking anyone's chain here. He's probably just wondering if stepping up to the Sebenza's cost is justified by superior performance over his other folding knives.

Honestly? In terms of performance? Probably not. Spyderco makes a durn good knife, in S30V no less, for under $100. Cuts like a champ and holds up awfully well.

Are the tolerances as high as a CRK? No. Whether this precision is "worth it" is entirely an individual call, and much of it has to do with aesthetics and an appreciation for fine machining.

You know, he also asked a legitimate question about carry and size. No one seems to be addressing this question, but everyone is jumping on the "same old thread" bandwagon.

So how about it? How many of you pocket carry a large Sebby? Impressions?

The small is more practical, as I keep it clipped to the pocket, but I like the large better, it's just more of a pain to reach past in the pocket.

i've carried my large classic Sebenza since August and have no problems with size or weight

i'm kind of a big guy though, i also wear jeans 90% of the time

is it worth it ? totally individual. i have a "gussied up" large sebenza that cost $800 cdn. i am nervous when v. occasionally carrying it. i have mysteriously lost knives in the past even though i thought i was being careful.
also, for me, a well made traditional folder has more charm or personality.
you could get a nice older Schrade LB7 for about $12 (with sheath, as it is 5 in. closed) on ebay most nights of the week and i bet it would cut whatever you needed it too. most of them lock up really tight and the non stainless are 1095. so if you look at a knife on the grounds of form and function, the extra money buys you what ? i have one and i don't know, other than a knife to compare your others with. the Sebenza is alone in it's price class, but not alone in form and function class.

The small Sebbie is the perfect size for EDC for me. The large is too large for ME for EDC. To me, the Sebenza IS the best production knife out there, bar none. And YES, it IS worth it to me.

I have no qualms about carrying and using any of my Custom knives.

I too find the small Sebenza sized just right for my hands. If I make a fist around it, there is about 1/8" hanging out each end of my fist, adding extra value as one of those highly touted "control" weapons so I don't have to dig for my SureFire light.

Yes, it IS an expensive knife to carry on a daily basis. If losing it would mean a financial hardship then no, this is not the knife for you.

I carried a Mont Blanc fountain pen for almost 15 years before I lost one. I expect to have a similar experience with my Sebenza.

I went through half a dozen knives before I bought my first Sebenza. Now you couldn't pay me (well, maybe . . .) to replace it.

I am a Benchmade folder kind of guy but I bought a small sebbie to expand my horizons. I really liked it. Its in my EDC rotation but never supplanted any of my other folders. For the money it probably should have but I seem to enjoy all my 75-125 dollar folders just as much. The small is my just about perfect size for carry and if the price point doesn't scare you off, you will most likely like the knife. I won't be getting rid of mine and have toyed with the idea of getting the Mnandi at some point.
