Sebenza, worth it?

I have an 8 year old large regular in BG-42 that has seen near daily carry in that time span. Finish on the handles has worn smooth (actually like it better this way), the screws are marred from tear down, stonewash/beadblast blade finish is near smooth from use, almost like a high satin/mirror finish now, has a real nice edge from years of sharpening at 20 degrees, so sharpening is a snap and so I have to say, she has done me right! I have some Emersons that see light carry mostly when I think I will need "quick" access=wave, say on the town on a saturday night, or where I think it could be confiscated, etc, but they will never usurp the Sebbie. I also keep mine teathered on a leash with a quick release key ring secured to my belt loop. On many occasion, she has slipped from my pocket. I think due to the smooth finish on the handles, but never came close to losing it thanks to the leash. Great knife for me as I am a user and not a collector, so in the end as a user, yeah I think it's worth it.

Best Regards,
Matador-

Also, something I've noticed about expensive things like this are people don't really get as much use out of them because they want to keep them in pristine condition.

So true. I'm at this very moment wrestling with buying [ another] Sebenza or a Strider PT because of the cost. I bought one [ a Sebenza] way back when and foolishly sold it. I loved the knife and everything everyone has said about it's quality is true, but I NEVER used it for any tough chores. I babied it because I knew that any potential buyer would want the knife as I would- in mint/ as new condition.
Kind of a paradox....
It seems to me the smartest way to buy a Sebenza - or any high quality, high dollar knife- is to NOT buy it with the idea of ever re-selling, thereby removing the 'fear of damage' inhibitor and using the knife to its fullest potential.

If you could use a $380 knife then it is a knife you could enjoy, but if you couldn't bring yourself to it then its obviously not for you. Personally the large is my size, my hand is longer than the smalls handle. I find that in jeans the lg. is unnoticable inn pocket, and it weighs very little in comparison to similar sized knives. What ever you decide remember USE it! Steve
