second anvil sample - not as bad as I feared

No, there should not be any porosity on the face. They are making a new mold, as this one ended up weighing 61 lbs. instead of my required 65 lbs. Yes, I am aware that the USPS large flate rate drops to 20 lbs. for international. That's what prompted me to re-engineer my forges 2 years ago, so I could ship them to Canada and Australia cheaper.

Is there porosity on the face?

Keep in mind the flat rate weight limits change if you're shipping outside the us

With all guidance Stacy's given the community, I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather have this first anvil, so I had it surface ground and sent Atlas Anvil #1 back to him. It had over 500 hours of bashing on it by different smiths using hammers up to 6 lbs. It held up great and had minimal damage to the face, much less than expected for using a 6 lb. hammer on a 65 lb. anvil. Look forward to a new design of anvil released (hopefully) before Blade Show in August.

That said, did you ever finish the blade you forged on it?

Thanks Charles.
I received the anvil and am very pleased to have #1. It will be the side anvil in the new shop. The blade that I forged on it is in the finishing box. I don't usually name blades, but when it is done I think I'll call it Atlas #1 and send it to you. The shop is comming along nicely and I'll post some photos of the anvil when it is in place.
