what tool do you consider to be your "secret weapon"?Mine is my makita electric die grinder .I call it my "Mans dremel tool".I use it for shaping handles, making fullers and lately Ive been using it to touch up my plunge lines.I consider it to be indespesable. What tools are you using that have made your life easier or stepped up your creativity?

Dremel. I just made a hole .85 in diameter with a tolerance of +/- 4/1000 out of titanium with it.

Good grinding belts for specific tasks

3" X 24" X 30" black granite surface plate (from an auction of a closed tool and die shop)

A Foredom flex-shaft on a bench hanger is my right hand. Along with a nice selection of bits, I have a 1x10" belt sander, a drill press, and a 2" angle grinder which all run off he main motor unit ...Teddy

My secret weapons are definitely my needle files. I can't think of any recent project I've completed without using at least one (and usually several) of them. If I had to pick just one from the pouch it would be the one that looks like a miniature flat bastard file. I use it for slotting guards, correcting problems in the plunge lines, flattening larger surfaces that seem to be impossible to flatten on a grinder or using larger files, and so on. Along similar lines I have recently take to using my diamond dust needle files on hardened blades.

In my world you can never have enough needle files.

This forum is my secret weapon. Whenever I think, "Gee, I don't know how to do that," I can just pop on here and search the forum, and learn how. Then it's just practice, practice, practice. When I think back to how much I've learned over the past year or so of knifemaking, having come to it as a complete and total novice, and look at all the things I've got bookmarked to learn next, just brings a smile to my face every time.

I'd have to say Cratex cones. Man they sure come in handy to clean up vertical scratches in the plunge. I use them in a Dremel flex-shaft and use an old file to shape them to whatever diameter I need for the plunge.

I forgot about my demagnitizer. I used to go nuts when I was hand filing stuff getting rid of the filings. Not any more

Small wheel attachment. Don't know how I ever got by without one. Makes nice round finger grooves and finishes them out super quick!
