Securing a Hawk To a Pack

Would you guys stop! The last thing I need is an image of Vec and Q running around naked together. Accordion or no. Sheesh. Where's my hawk...

Q, can't you cut the upper channel of the PVC smaller so as to retain the handle. It may rattle around a bit but neoprene would fix that, when one needed to deploy the hawk it would *pop* out the top.

Si senoir Shootie...my pipe insulation idea seems to have solved this issue.

Mind you...this is stll a not ready for prime time prototype...but it is evolving.

So here is what I have so far...does anyone have any constructive suggestions or ideas?

If yes, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!

That is a superb idea Vec...but not this unit...nay, I shall stomp all 265 pounds of my Qness on this prototype #1 to test how it stands up to Qbuse. However, I will sand (and paint) prototype #2 which will have four (4) pack attachment points (compared to the 2 on prototype #1). Prototype #2 will also have several more places in which to afix pipe insulation to add additional haft retention capability to the unit.

Vec, I sure think that composites would suit this nicely. Q, I believe that this is, nay, this IS the finest carry example for a hawk I have seen. Refine it and you got sumthin soo-perb!

Nah. It was fun, but I'm done. Maybe someone else can run with my start. I'm gonna drop it in a loop like brother UnSub.

DID you put those hawks together or did you buy hem like that? Who makes those handles??

on the right (pictured below, from last year), you can see a Coyote Hawk threaded through the grab handle, with a twist in it. - this can be a great rig on any pack - you reach back with your free hand and acquire the grab handle, sticking the butt of the hawk handle in it downward, then turn the hawk 180 degrees and latch it into a loop on the ide or bottom, and then give it a shove to set it - it will stay put from friction on just about all conditions until you need it - then it presents instantly with an upward and outward pull - it scares the crap out of everything under a ton when ya do it too, with a proper long hawk.

as you can see in this picture, i have a couple large magazine pouches at the base of this Camelback pack, which further retains the hawk in the above-described configuration, when the hawk is retained vertically, vice diagonally, pinched between the pouches. - if i am team shooting, the extra magazines on my back and the hawk can both come to immediate good use for my partner.

simply make a strap, on the occasion that you lack one.

this hawk is shown in draw configuration - simply run a slipknot of your choice to the bit and poll, for an unshakeable retainer that opens instantly when purposefully released. - run the release cord to the front of your body, etc.

you can run the hawk down the side of the pack, which most folks like to do that i know, but i prefer to run the hawk down the middle, and sometimes on the diagonal (as shown above) as i do my shotgun and rifle on a 3-day pack when "cutting" throught the wilderness, moving very quickly, heavily laden with arms, or carrying a buddy's primary firearm.

why do i prefer that? - it reduces blind spots when i look over my shoulder, which i do a lot when in the boonies - a bear that is stalking you can and will hide behind the blind spot that your tool handle covers - cougars too, i caught one in the act years ago :thumbdn: - bad kitty, bad, bad kitty.... - BTW - a hawk is better in CQB than a shotgun when your buddy is downrange with a momma bear checking out his tennis shoes ...:D....

watch out for hawk-stealin' coyotes. caught in the act.

carrying tucked through a flap or on top of a buttpack or fanny pack has got to be my favorite carry though - especially worn bandoleer style - me and backpacks don't get along for long periods of time. this Battle Lab bag worked well. i like the military buttpacks a little better, for my purposes. these look decent too.

God Bless.

....and then there are sling/lanyard carries.......

but i don't want to bore ya.

those are some older composite handle designs i made, known as the Gen 1 Mk 2 (i believe that was the model that they were - we are on the Gen 1 Mk 4 currently.)

those were fantastic hawks IMHO - all the heads you see there were Handpicked Cold Steel Trail Hawk heads, that we hafted with our composite handles. - just gorgeous with those Coyote Brown 1000 Denier Real Cordura skins.

Cold Steel temporarily ran out of aesthetically perfect heads to sell us, so we spent the down time developing the Mk 4 variant, which includes internal storage, higher strength, lesser weight than the predecessors, with a slightly altered cross section.

the Mk 4 should also have some new handle elements sooner or later, such as Sectionality of the handles. - it all depends on next year's demands on us, as we possibly get involved working for some big companies.

wish us luck, and pray for the humble Hawk Project.

Do you have a web site?

I just attach it with the Ice axe straps on my old swiss mountain ruck. Something they don't put on these new fancy packs.

that is definitely a whamy-jammy website alrighty.

:D:thumbup:

vec

Hey Vec...that is a Let's See How Much Stuff Q Can Jam Into A 5 Pound Box website.

I can make a website much simpler, and much more focused WITH a gallery upload feature that Vec can control. I can also implement a content management system so Vec can control all of the content on all of the pages and I can do all this for a monthly hosting fee of $6.90 per month with email, spam filtering, ftp upload etc etc etc.! (you pay the host direct)

Will work for hawks bro!
