Seeking advice

My most used Sebenza is a Small Micarta 21 (standard blade). It is beautiful, capable, and doesn't terrify non-bladies. I have a strong preference for inlays on the Small - otherwise they swim a bit in my hands. For the Large, I'd say go plain scales. In my heart, I would probably have to admit the Insingo blade might have been a better option in the Small Micarta, but I find the standard 21 blade shape to be just so beautiful (looks & function) that I don't regret my choice (as if I won't eventually have the SMI too).

So here is a pic I took for another thread comparing the size of several knives I have. Just so happens there is a Slysz bowie and a CRK Small Insingo w/ micarta inlay as well as a Small Inkosi. Perhaps this along with the previous pics above will help with size. Obviously holding it is the best. I'm in an office mostly, and have medium sized hands, so the Small works well for that environment.

I have not owned a Small Inkosi (yet) but from handling them, I think that I might be more favorable to the Small Inkosi in plain Ti than I was to the Small Sebenza due to the "traction" (for lack of a better word coming to mind right now) the grooves provide. The Sebbie is more "neutral" in the hand (a good thing typically IMHO) but without an inlay the small sebbie lacks the positive hold I prefer.

I own a small CCG Sebenza, small micarta sebenza and plain ti inkosi and I agree with you here. Whereas the sebenza benefits from micarta (although I also like it just fine without) I would actually think the inlay on the inkosi would make it too wide as it already feels wider than the sebenza in hand. That said, I've never held an inlay inkosi.

What I really want is a "medium" Inkosi, Sebenza and Umnumzaan..... But there are enough threads about wishes.

If you have titanium frame locks in other knives why not go for something different like the ti-lock. The handle and blade size and length are slightly bigger than the small sebie. It will definitely stand out in your collection and is a joy to use. Used ones can be found between $350-$400.

Best of luck with your search.

Everyone's going to have an opinion. Just one? I'd go for a large Sebenza 21 with micarta inlays, ideally with double lugs.

I see you picked up a small 21 Vermontedge! Welcome to the CRK crew!

Hey thanks Bravo! Haha, that was quick on your end. I was just hopping over here for a post.

I wanted to thank everyone for their help. I know that this is a topic that has absolutely been beat to death but I really appreciated the opportunity to hear what everyone had to say. This is such a great community and I'm glad to be a part of it.

As 91Bravo pointed out I decided to go with a small 21 with a drop point blade. Partly because I wanted to start with a small and partly because my wife said if I could find a good deal that I wouldn't have to sell anything to justify the purchase. Win win, right? (How great are supportive wives, by the way?).

This has been a long, long time coming. I've been fascinated by knives since I was a kid and have gone through a lot of knives and a lot of phases. Now, 30 years old with a new son of my own I'm so excited to move into the CRK world. I can't tell you how long I've wanted a Seb. I've never even handled one. Heck I've never even been in the same room as one. I'm sure that this will be the first of many and I'm absolutely pumped to get my hands on this little guy and start using it.

Thanks to 91bravo for the welcome and thanks to everyone else for your thoughts and advice!

Also....WAHOO!

It's not life changing. You are already used to quality knives. This will just be a other solid knife. If I were you I'd go with the large Insingo micarta.

Talk to your wife if you need to, get the CRK in hand and then sell the other knives after if you need to.

It's an itch that doesn't go away until you scratch it but the Sebbie is not for everyone. And at the end of the day a knife cuts things. That's it. Don't over think it. If you don't like it you can sell it at a $30 loss.

Edit nevermind lol!

Good wife she's a keeper!

you should have went with an Insingo blade...

you will get an Insingo blade...

in the end, we all will own an Insingo blade...it's true.

Hear that?

It's the Insingo blade calling your name...

But seriously-- good call on the small...please post up your review.

I had a very similar dilemma ;)
I have taken a small insingo with micarta inlays even if the standard blade shape is more iconically

But that is all personal preferences ;)
Enjoy yours

That's a great choice. You might find this is the only CRK you'll ever need. Like I did. Then again it's hard to see to far into the future, especially regarding knife preferences.. :D

Congrats!!

Congrats! That's a great, solid choice! The Small will make a great stand-alone piece, while still pairing up very well with larger knives from your collection.
