So, I emailed the mods and asked them to come up with some new giveaways, contests, etc. to liven things up a bit. Getting that time of year that some skills contests would be a great thing.

My thinking is a big skills contest and the winner walks away with one new ESEE knife a month for a year (each one a different model). What say all of you?

I say yay! I'm down for this kind of contest.

Since the winter months are coming up, maybe you guys can implement something to do with winter survival? Maybe like, techniques for starting fires in very wet conditions... ways to make shelter more heat-efficient. Just throwing some things out there.

Not everyone will get snow, but most people will have cold and wet to deal with ;)

That is a MASSIVE prize you are suggesting. Will you have it for just one person? I personally liked the way the izula 10,000 contest was structured, having several "places" and then giving the overall winner a little more choice in the prize.

Oh, I'm sure there will be second and third places...just not that big of a prize ;)

If i understand correctly that would be one happy winner but i think it would be even better if there was a new winner of ESEE knife each month...that makes 12 people happy.

Once again you all prove (not that you have to with us) that your a step above and ahead of the rest.

Good luck to all of you that enter. :)

Stay safe my friends.

That is a VERY generous prize. I would definitely be interested in some sort of skills contest, as it would give me an excuse to work on and improve the limited skills I have.

I echo the sentiments of Gundude, though. Not everyone lives in a rural environment (myself included) where we would be able to, say, construct a shelter.

Whatever the decision, thanks for doing this.

John

This sounds like a lot of fun could be had by all. I'm all for any type of contest that helps me build up my skills.

Sure would like to be able to put a new RAT pack kit to use during the contests though. :D

Sounds like a great idea. Even if one can't participate for some reason, there are still things that can be learned

It will be woodlands skills since that's what we are all about ;)

tho I have few skills, I'm glad for everyone else....how 'bout a most improved category.....oh just send me a knife

I agree, it’s been a little slow. I’ve been checking in a couple times a week or so to add in my 2 cents and have been spending more time outside. Once winter gets around I’m sure some of us will be more prone to sipping a nice cup of coffee and looking out the window. I’ve been known to do that once or twice.

Wasn’t far from this time last year there were a bunch of monkeys out in the woods building debris shelters…. :D
