Seen This?

one of the most ill conceived, hideous looking shanks ever...
as has been stated above just try and explain that one if you're stopped.
"But officer it's okay cause i'm a ninja and this is badass!" "i am the only thing standing between freedom and total anarchy"... lets go de-animate zombies!!!
blah, blah, blah
my my its amazing how far down the toilet schrade has gone, thanks Taylor Cutlery:mad:

Recently, I find several Schrade knives to be quite interesting. Firstly, the Schrade OTf knife and secondly, this particular one with innovative design in my opinion. Although the knucle like sheath is quite controversial, it is the main reason I bought the knife. The idea of having Led on the traditional fixed blade is another part that I like about this knife. The Led is bright enough to find objects in the dark but do not expect the same brightness that a decent flashlight unit delievers.. (BTW, I like my Surefire G2 Black Nitron but it is expensive.)

The blade holds the edge very good but some rust on it already so I doubt if it is stainless steel and I can not find any information on the steel used?? I suspect it is carbon steel but I am not an expert so do not hold me resposible for that.

I have not tested the beer bottle opener but I am sure it will open my beers NO problem.. LOL

I never understand the bottle opener on the ass of these skeletonized "survival" knives.

Are bottles THAT hard to open? Are bottle openers THAT hard to find?

In a "survival" situation, is having a bottle opener THAT important? (Yes, I know there are beer jokes to come.)

Seriously, isn't there another tool that could be fashioned in the butt of a knife that would be more useful? How about a Phillips screwdriver? Anything more useful than a bottle opener. Doesn't seem very thoughtful.

.

I completely agree. As someone who (A) doesn't drink, and (B) uses knives outdoors, I consider these bottle openers on the ass end of skeletonized "survival" knives worse than useless.

babakanoosh that is amazing. im gonna send it to every glock fanboy i know :D

i dunno the design looks fine for the price point.

the sheath is a legal issue, but how many who knocked the bottle opener went ahead and told Ethan Becker, Tom Krein, and the whole of Victorinox, SOG, Leatherman, etc. that they were also idiots ruining knives with worthless features?

Good point made!!
Although I will hardly use the bottle opener on the butt of the blade.. I do not think it is a bad thing for this added feature. Besides, the grip is not as bad as I thought it would be.

Dead guy's one of my alltime favorite drinking beers. Right up there with Sprecher and Fat Tire and Anderson's Summer Solstice :)

The steel is not stainless, 1095 is what they claimed, and the sheath I originally saw it with didn't have the felonious knuckle dusters. It's still crap.

A few things:

1) I have told Victorinox that I don't care for the bottle opener and the corkscrew. I've told them exactly what I'd like, if I could get one just as I want.

2) That said, the discussion was about bottle openers on the butt of "survival" fixed blades, not as one of many tools within a multitool.

3) I don't feel it's my responsibility to inform every maker of every possible product that I might conceivably purchase about my dislikes and my theoretical preferences for their products. It is enough to vote elsewise with my dollars.

No, but people make a point of criticizing features on a crappy knife, while leaving them alone when placed on works from respected companies and individuals. If the steel is crap, say it to the ones using crap steel. If the sheath is a stupid idea, say to the ones who made it. If a bottle opener is a stupid addition to survival fixed blades, contractor grade multitools, combat grade this, hardcore that, wilderness widgets, armageddon accessories, whatever, people should have opened their mouths sooner.

Whoa?!!! Geez! "Gangsta"-style target acquisition LOL!

As for the knife in question:

1. That handle looks uncomfortable and might "dig" into the pinky during hard, sustained cutting tasks.

2. I'm no industrial design guy, but from average experience, sometimes what looks good in paper (theory) doesn't readily translate to functional reality. Can't really say for certain if the sheath works or not, but it does seem "too busy" design-wise cramming a lot of features into one package (a violation of the KISS principle).

I criticized a knife design feature in theory, not a particular maker and model. Perhaps we fundamentally disagree on this point, but I think abstract criticism of problematic concepts is valid, and potentially productive. I also think it is valid anf potentially productive to criticize a problematic feature/concept on a knife, when someone who is interested in the knife asks whether we've seen this.

I'm not sure what you mean by "sooner"; I've been vocal on this subject for years.

I wouldn't recognize a Tom Krein knife if you put it in my hand, and I have no idea what his line of knife models is like; however you can be sure that, if he posts an experimental/prototype knife, and asks for feedback, and I read it, and I have a critical opinion to render, and I have time to share my views – I will gladly render criticism.

What if you're an operative in the field. You are wearing this around your neck and crawling toward your objective in a scouting mission. The log you crawled over just depressed the button on the LED light, lighting up your face, which is CAMO'd of course, but still stands out among the darkened, night sky and surrounding terrain. Could be trouble...

Wow you think it would make it that far? i know alot of guys that actually replace their zipper pulls with inova lights so i dont know how big a concern that would be for me. i certainly doubt this was made for anyone doing serious combat survival stuff this is more of an urban EDC than anything else.

They should have pushed the envelope further and made it so the knife can be mounted onto the brass knuckles, so it will end up looking like this:

I mean, the design is already so over the top that they might as well ad that function.
