Seki City quality control problem... *problem fixed*

Good to know PC is being strictly enforced today )

I recently ordered a Delica 4 and Endura 4 FFG and both were finished very nicely. Hate to hear that OP has not been so fortunate. Sure hope that those Seki issues are exceptions and not the new norm.

I'm sorry you've had issues, I would indeed send that knife back if it were me. I don't think that the lockbar not being perfectly flush when open is a huge deal, but I don't fault you for your standards if it bothers you. I'd just remind you that even if you bought 100 knives you'd still be getting a fairly small sample of what the Japanese Spyderco plants had to offer, much less Japanese manufacturing in general, so your experience is far from conclusive. It is your experience, though, and will obviously color your buying decisions in the future.

If you were to buy from some of the smaller retailers (Howes, Knifeworks) I'm sure you could get them to inspect your knife prior to shipping if you described your previous experiences with this model. There are other good ones as well, those are just two I feel confident in recommending.

Thanks for sharing your pics and experience, though, it is sure to be helpful for other people interested in the Ulize. Also, it may very well be that there are consistently problems with this model, and Spyderco is more able to determine that with details and pics like you provided.

When an abbreviation is derogatory, which is rarely the case, doesn't make it less offensive. I won't be silly, you don't be ignorant.

The only thing guaranteed not to offend someone is silence. Actually even silence might offend some people these days.

I have not noticed a QC slip in Seki made Spydercos. Just my .02

Deleted response because OP deleted his rant after he cleaned his knife.

Why get the third knife if the previous ones were unacceptable? Obviously your expectations won't be met, why keep buying the same ubacceptable product?

I submit that a coin that falls heads 2 times in a row is still capable of falling tails. I don't think it unreasonable that the OP was assuming he merely got a string of bad luck, and only posted here after he was satisfied that he actually was seeing a pattern.

Not really. Race related stuff is just plain stupid. I didn't mean it with malice, I was just bringing it up in case the user didn't know. I feel the same way about any such wording to any race.

Your the one who made this race related...stupid.
What have you contributed other than to incite hate. Go spout your bullshit elsewhere..

I really like the Ulize's design so I keep on buying trying to get a good one.

Maybe 4th time the charm? We shall see.

This is unfortunate to see, my 3 Sekis have been issue free (Matriarch Emerson, Endura Emerson, Tasman SE), I have a hard time believing that this is part of a larger trend.

Why don't you try ordering from a real dealer instead. Ask them to give a look at for flaws before they ship it to you.

Yes, I agree with this suggestion. I've never had a respectable dealer have an issue with this. Particularly if you explain the circumstances concerning your request.

I myself have done this a couple times when I wanted to be sure I was getting a good one from the get go.

I have an Endura with a weird grind on the spine and crazy tool marks inside the spydiehole. Then my black southard came with a perfect circle missing from the coating on one side. I've been debating sending the southard in but then I'm paying for extra shipping that I don't think I should have to. Stinks when QC is bad and the consumer suffers.

I often wonder if, in some cases, some defects like these could be the result of people messing around with the knives after they've left the factory/manufacturer.

Nobody bats 1000 consistently and nothing is perfect 100% of the time. I've had a couple of Seki knives that showed less attention than others and I've had Seki knives that were as close to perfect as perfect gets. I've seen this in other brands of knives, especially the more popular models of the more popular brands. I do believe that when there is an increased demand and increased production to meet the demand there will be more errors involved in the process. When it comes to knives, Spyderco still ranks at the top for me even though Spyderco is not perfect.

LOL. Trying to enlighten some people is difficult. Maybe one day you'll understand when your race is involved.

Since most of my knives are midlock, and most of those are made in Japan, I'd say somewhere around 90% of the 300+ Spyderco folders I've purchased new are from Japan, with the rest about evenly divided between Taichung and Golden. To the best of my recollection, I've sent back 1 Spyderfly (repaired), 1 Kopa (repaired), and 1 Sage 4 (replaced) for warranty issues. To me, that speaks well of Spyderco quality in general, and of the Japanese ones in particular.
